The NFFC pre-season invitational....

I can see it already...

Greg,

I think one of the things that can make an event like the NFFC more fun is historical records. Can we count that magazine league I did last year in some way? I want more of my good seasons to count! lol

Hello, my name is Diesel, and I'm a NFFC-aholic... :D

Greg, you know you can count on me to be on here all year long. February-June is icing on the cake for me and a few other guys...It's great to talk football when money isn't on the line right there and then. You get more honest opinions...

I feel I've been on this site long enough to keep people busy with good solid football talk throughout the off-season...I mean after all, how many people other than Me, You and Tom K. and a few others know who NFFC Member #1 is? ;)

Anyway, count me among the select few who know about Member #1 :D

Oops, they're coming on now. Later guys...

There are over 600 MB members and only a dozen or so who post regularly.

Why is that?

My thoughts:

1) most see this as a waste of their time
2) they read a bunch of bickering and name calling and think most of us are little beotches
3) they simply do not have time to do it
4) it doesn't interest them, they like the game and play it and that is more than enough for most
5) most players aren't as deranged as "we" are, they are not "obsessed" with the game, they play for fun (whatever that means)
6) most are "peepers", they look and leave. Are there stats on how many of the 600+ actually visit the MB and post regularly?

The $64,000 question is; Do you think a free entry into any league is going to increase the traffic and quality of posts on the MB?

I think it will begin a relentless series of self serving posts as folks try and position themselves for a spot in the "NFFC Invitational". (this will be entertaining)

It could clean up the crap that usually ends up in every thread and that would be a GREAT thing. So for that reason alone, I am all for it.

Greg announces some criteria for selection (he may have already done that in his earlier post), announces his intentions in a formal MB thread, puts it in the weekly newsletter, etc...

What will happen is the MB will get more posters with more quality content. how can this be a bad thing?

It could clean up the crap that usually ends up in every thread and that would be a GREAT thing. So for that reason alone, I am all for it. My main purpose in even considering this idea is to find a way where we can add content to the message boards during the off-season since I don't have a content site for something like that. If that means adding content on the NFFC Message Boards and paying for it, I'm all for it. Again, it's an idea I've had for years where I make my top players "columnists" if you will here, giving newbies and NFFC regulars a chance to see some opinions about players, strategies, even position rankings.

I would be looking for key NFFC veterans to help me with that, not MB Allstars as Gordon suggests. If I'm going to hand out free entries as GG wants, I need to justify the expense because there is a cost involved in everything I do. For $1,250, I'd want content on the MBs that is worthy of drawing die-hard fantasy football players to the site.

I think I have a few ideas for the content and those 14 owners would have to be willing to help me with that, not just write drivel on the MBs to increase their post totals. And I have some owners in mind who don't post constantly on the boards who could do that for me. I'll keep this in mind and then we'll see how it plays out.

My choices won't jive with everyone's opinion of who should be involved, but we'll see what happens. Thanks for the idea GG as it's good for the NFFC and for all of us who want more football content on the boards. More to come when I get back in the office.

Hmm. SNAKE, aren't you a) the same guy sitting in 319th place, b) the same guy who keeps changing his team name so everyone does not realize that that "team" is your team sitting in 319th place, and c) the same team that is 4 spots BEHIND UFS in the overall standings?

I'm just saying.....
