Auction rules gotta change

Of all the topics frequently discussed on these boards, the debate between H2H and points has always intrigued me the most.

I think most of us will agree our local and or private leagues are almost all H2H, but we "don't care" as much about the random factor as the financial stakes are not nearly as steep, at least in most cases.

That said, I honestly believe there is a different strategy that one should employ in a total points format versus a H2H format with single elimination playoffs. With the former, it is pretty obvious, you want the most points. With the latter, you want to

a. make the playoffs
b. have the best team during the playoffs

The strategies involved here are not necessarily the same. The differing strategies can be a topic for another thread, but at least in my way of thinking, I approach a total points format differently than a H2H/single elimination playoff format.

My point for this thread is where you can get in trouble from an administrative angle is setting up a hybrid format, which in essence is what the NFFC is in general, though the 10% rule basically turns the Main Event into a points competition disguised a little as H2H. But the auctions and even satellites do not have that 10% parachute.

It comes down to how those governing the competition want the money-winners to be determined.

Most overall points?
Combination of most consistent team that is best stocked for a playoff run at the end of the season?

An argument can be made both ways. It is really tough to keep both sides of the argument happy.

I'll hang up and listen to your answer. Good post. Frankly, I think Total Points is overrated in that it places no value on scoring well consistently. All the popular formats (H2H, Victory Points, All-Play, Total Points) have their merits and the fairest system would probably be to have each system determine at least one seed.

Nevertheless I'm content with the way things are in the auction format. In any event the 6 playoff seeds need to stay. I like it because it gives an owner more 'room' to construct a team built to peak late in the season.

Greg, do you ever say anything to Mark? He has just as many problems as Glenn does on the boards.
I would like to know the answer to this also.
[/QUOTE]Patrick, I talk with Mark and many others about what I expect from them on the boards. I can have a conversation with him and he knows what I mean. Both Tom and I have talked with Glenn several times about what we expect on the boards and each time he continues to do what we've asked him not to do. Plain and simple: If you can't help to the discussion on a thread, don't post at all. Nobody NEEDS to hear anyone's personal insults or see how you can hijack another thread. Sheesh.

I receive calls, e-mails and PMs about certain posters and nobody gets under the skin of our members more than one poster. And I've told him that. And I've asked him to help. But to no avail.

Sure, call me all you want. In fact, let's bring all of you into the principal's office for a chat. Sheesh.

Again, keep the personal attacks out of it and I'm fine. This topic should be about the rules and how we can make it better. Jeff's name of the post obviously opened this up for severe criticism and I have no problem with that. He didn't say "What does everyone else think about the auction playoff format?" He made an opinion on the title and thus some folks didn't agree. That's fine. The Snake jump-in, sheesh, what did it add???

Carry on the subject of rules changes for the auction leagues. That's all I want.

Sorry, I live in a semi-free country and would never feel the need to call Greg because I didn't like someone's posting style. I thought we were adults; most adults don't tattle on others, especially when it comes to something written in black and white on a public mb. Do you not see how juvenile it looks to see yourself say over and over that you are going to call Greg?

You can keep assuming things, like you did with other people and their so-called alternate monikers, but even if I were Yoda, what does that have to do with ANYTHING here?

So it's okay for Mark to call people names?
It's okay for Mark to insinuate things that aren't true?
It's okay for Mark to not change a quote, but rather, to change peoples intentions..a'la what he did with Russ over the weekend?
It's okay for him to jump all over newbies for their questions....and not just Zeus.

That's fine if Glenn cannot follow rules....do something about it....but nobody ever sees anything in response to Mark's antics. That's all I am saying. I could care less who post here, but when a lot of people feel someone has free reign, something should be done.

BTW, daughter is in our prayers.

BTW, daughter is in our prayers. Patrick, I hate to even reply because I know it will just bring another post from Glenn and I honestly can't stand to read another one of those. The number of people who have left our boards since this little crying act started this morning is more than I can comprehend. If this were Nielsen ratings, we'd be cancelled thanks to the juvenile antics on this thread. There were actually people coming here this morning to discuss football, but I trust they've left for other boards.

I expect people to police themselves and to know when it's time to act appropriately. When they can't do that, then I grudgingly get involved. One person's antics can kill a board for the short-term. I try to make sure it doesn't kill the board long-term or God forbid the contest.

I think I'm done with this thread. As leader of the Chum Chum Club, I will state that sitting in a waiting room tomorrow will feel like pleasure rather than monitoring these boards for a day.

Auction rules gotta change

Can we please start over here?

My ONLY suggestion/question to the owners playing in the auctions is this:

What are the pros/cons of making the 3/4 spots qualify based on record and the 5/6 spots based on points.

I have shared what I believe the benefits are. I am interested in everyones thoughts as long as backed up with some reason.

Who knows, maybe you'll change my mind if you take the time to explain your position.

That's my only motive for this thread.

Sorry to even bring it up, but it's time to put life in perspective.
