Auction rules gotta change

Post by renman » Tue Oct 14, 2008 7:50 am

Greg,

No matter how hard I have tried I never have never felt part of the "inner circle" of the NFFC...lol I had no idea your daughter was not feeling her best. My thoughts are with you. We all look forward to step 3 being in the books.

As for the auction rules. I am wondering what people think about the idea of a 3 week total point sprint (for the 6 playoff teams) as opposed to H2H single game eliminations. I think a healthy balance between H2H and total points should be used to determine the 6 playoff teams.

I know someone else mentioned the 3 week total point sprint (with weekly average) just like the NFFC main events. It makes it feel like less of a crap shoot and again gives a slight advantage to the better stronger teams.

Anyone else care to share opinions?

intersting, but seeds #1 and #2 should at least get a week 14 bye. . . . maybe weeks 15 and 16 could be the sprint AFTER two get eliminated?1?1?

Hman83,

Maybe after each week of the three week sprint the 2 lowest scoring teams get eliminated and the #1 and 2 seeds get byes? Just throwing out ideas... Then again, that isn't much different from the H2H crap shoot.

Maybe your idea is better with weeks 15 and 16 being the spring after wild card eliminations.

We all agree that H2H can get really skewed with the randomness of scheduling etc...
so why do we award the last 2 spots to the best remaining records?

Honestly...if 6 teams make the playoffs shouldn't they be the best 6 teams?

Right now in my Chicago auction league I am 3rd in points..only 20 behind the leader. As H2H fate would have it I'm sitting on a 2-4 record.

The best record is currently 6th in total points. Because I'm currently 3rd in points I would be in the playoffs but check this out........ if the team 6 points behind me outscored me by 7 next week and the season was over...I'd be out of the playoffs.

Are you kidding me! I could be 27 points away from the most points in my league and still not be qualified as one of the top 6.

That's messed up. 2 teams with 100 points less than me would be in.

Here's my suggestion for next season.

Better:
1)Best record
2)Most points
3)Record
4)Record
5)Points
6)Points

It would be virtually impossible to miss the playoffs being top 4 in points under this format.

Best:
1)Record
2)Points
3)Points
4)Points
5)Points
6)Points

Never ever miss the playoffs being top 5 in points.

This happened to me last year in the auction being 5th in points and not making it. Had I got in I would've brought home 2nd place cash.

Greg...this reeeeeally bothers me but I presented it like a gentleman and would appreciate a response.

I think this will get alot of support....especially from those who believe points is a better indicator of team strength.

Thanks in advance to everyone who considers this idea. Jeff,

I'm not sure you are on the right page with the play-off system. I looked at your league. You would be the 4th seed.

#1 Team Wiseheart (most points)
#2 Game Time Decisions (best record)
#3 Generation Swine (2nd most points)
#4 Route C (3rd most points)
#5 Bald Men Walking (next h2h)
#6 Ice Machine (next h2h)

If the season ended today, the top six team with most points scored would make the play-offs.

Good Luck the rest of the way!

This whole thread is frustrating. Greg needs to know that Snake is not the only issue here.

I can say that some of the participants of this thread are the very reason I have slowed way down on posting on this board.

While I may not bring "A LOT" to this MB, I do know that I've had enough and am fed up all the way around. I wish that wasn't the case. I tried to be understanding, thick-skinned, etc. But enough is enough. If things change and ALL are held to the SAME standard going forward, I'll be happy to resume more frequent posting. Until then, I'll stay in the corner. Which is likely more than those who will not even make their first post because of what they see going on here.

Greg, regarding your daughter, she is on my prayers.

One nice thing about this thread ... Greg's family will get a lot of needed prayers. And we will all pray a little bit more because of it.

People should treat other's like they want to be treated. I have had issues with a half dozen people in the past (things are said and misunderstood). I usually private message them (I usually give them the last word on the message board because someone has to have it). Then in private ... It is much easier to clear the air (it has worked in every case but one). This is the path everyone should take.

One on one is the path you should take if someone was causing you problems in real life (public thrashing is not kind and not as effective). IMO you should choose the same path on the message board. Jeff and Mark didn't even really have a problem to speak of ... they both just wanted to talk football ... but too many people took sides (old sides) ... before there was really a side to take. Piling on is the problem here.

If I thought someone was really out of line ... I would PM the offender personally and add my 2 cents ... as to not bring public scrutiny to the issue (A couple of you know this to be true).

If someone has been a problem in the past ... do you really give them a chance to change if you jump on every single post them make assuming the worst? They cannot improve if people quit giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Treat other like you want to be treated ... when you screw this up (like I do ... too often in fact) ... PM someone and say your sorry (like I do ... too often in fact). Is it really that hard?

Greg, prayers for your daughter here. I hope all is well and getting better each day. Each year.

As far as the auction...If we continue to play head to head, it seems fair that half of the teams that get into the playoffs, get in via head to head. I do agree that points determine who the better team was all year, but maybe we can find a way to defer prize money towards awarding more money for the points winner? I dunno...I'm just fishing for something...lol
