Auction rules gotta change

Right now in my Chicago auction league I am 3rd in points..only 20 behind the leader. As H2H fate would have it I'm sitting on a 2-4 record.

The best record is currently 6th in total points. Because I'm currently 3rd in points I would be in the playoffs but check this out........ if the team 6 points behind me outscored me by 7 next week and the season was over...I'd be out of the playoffs.

Are you kidding me! I could be 27 points away from the most points in my league and still not be qualified as one of the top 6.

That's messed up. 2 teams with 100 points less than me would be in.

This happened to me last year in the auction being 5th in points and not making it. Had I got in I would've brought home 2nd place cash.

Jeff,

I'm not sure you are on the right page with the play-off system. I looked at your league. You would be the 4th seed.

#1 Team Wiseheart (most points)
#2 Game Time Decisions (best record)
#3 Generation Swine (2nd most points)
#4 Route C (3rd most points)
#5 Bald Men Walking (next h2h)
#6 Ice Machine (next h2h)

If the season ended today, the top six team with most points scored would make the play-offs.

Good Luck the rest of the way!
Shawn....if you check out this part of my post I was painting a scenerio of how easy I could be out if I fall to 4th in points.

Good luck to you as well...you've got a contending team...especially if NE can muster up any offense.

As for the auction rules. I am wondering what people think about the idea of a 3 week total point sprint (for the 6 playoff teams) as opposed to H2H single game eliminations. I think a healthy balance between H2H and total points should be used to determine the 6 playoff teams.
i like this idea. :D
I like this idea too but it doesn't address how teams qualify for the 6 alloted spots.

Auction rules gotta change

My ONLY suggestion/question to the owners playing in the auctions is this:

What are the pros/cons of making the 3/4 spots qualify based on record and the 5/6 spots based on points.

I have shared what I believe the benefits are. I am interested in everyones thoughts as long as backed up with some reason.

Who knows, maybe you'll change my mind if you take the time to explain your position.

That's my only motive for this thread. Is it really that hard to stay on topic or does no one actually understand the question?

Hi Jeff,

Here's some discussion from almost 2 years ago when the auction playoff seeds were changed:

Auction rules gotta change

i think head to head should stay... im out in auction league this year in nffc. my team blows unless i score 200pts a week for next 7 weeks however in wcoff, my points suck you know what, but im 4-2 and still alive technically... head to head keeps teams interested.. period.. if your going to change it, then no head to head period.. which is boring.. just my opinion. i respect yours though.

Auction rules gotta change

Just a thought:

If there is an advantage to being seeded 3rd as opposed to 5th, shouldn't that reward go to the team that did "better" in the regular season and scored the most points? I believe that's why the 3/4 are based on points and the 5/6 on H2H.

Also, IMO the Top 3 point scorers should be guaranteed playoff spots -- not the Top 4. The way things are set-up right now, the Top 3 point scorers and the Top 3 H2H teams make the playoffs. Do well in one or the other, and you're in the playoffs.

Not really looking to do away with it..just alter it slightly. Any thoughts on pros/cons to altering it?

I think you have a valid point...one I'm going to give some thought to. I guess I still think if you're top 4 in points then you should never get shut out of a 6 team playoff.

It seems to me that if the majority would rather it stay the same then the talk of wanting to "beat the best" should cease.

Seriously..thanks for your input. I will always go with the majority once the democratic process has been given it's due. I may not like it...but i respect it. :D
