Screw the bidding on draft position.......

It ALL should be done "auction" style! Let me first say that I drafted in the N.Y auction and had a very poor auction for my standards as I am currently 3-4, although I believe I am in the top 20 overall in points.

That being said, who's fault is it in an auction if you don't do well?..... YOURS! Everyone starts on an even playing field, and NO ONE has ANY advantage from the word go.

Going ALL auction would cut down on all the "whiners" (won't mention any names!) who complain about a "bad draft position". Even if you installed Gecko's "draft position bidding", which I personally think is a great idea, you STILL would have people complaining.

I drafted from the 14th slot in NY League 6, and just lost my 2nd game of the year because Champ Bailey slipped and let Chad Johnson go right by him. I am 5-2 and 2nd in my league in points, and in the top 15 overall, but I still am worried I am going to win nothing! I wasn't crazy at all about picking 14th as it forces you to take more chances than in the middle, but that is what I got.

Draft position is just too much luck to invest $1,250 IMO. If you would have said, "I will give you the 14th pick for a $625 entry fee" BEFORE the draft, I would have probably said "no thanks"!

This game in general is too much luck to invest a lot of $ if you don't have it (which I don't, as I am a teacher). For example, before this week, if you would have switched Kate & Halle's (the other 5-1 team in NY 6) and my schedules (meaning he played my opponents and I played his for the first 6 weeks), my record would still be 5-1, but he would be 2-4! That is not to take anything away from his team, because they are solid, but there is a ridiculous amount of luck involved in this game, and I am just wondering if mine has run out over the years?

To eliminate the luck I suggest the following;

1) Go to auction

2) Go to a format where you play EVERYONE every week, so if you have the 2nd highest scoring week and just happen to play the top team, you still are rewarded (with more than just points!) Another service does this, and it takes a lot of the luck out of the game!

Greg and Tom are top notch when it comes to customer service and I would recommend this league to anyone who has the $$, but I unfortunately do not, as this was a one time deal for me , unless I get best record in my league of course! ;)

Problem is , the auction would scare not only the whiners but alot of other would be teams from this contest. Look at the auction this year , only a few leagues were filled! And the price was what ? Half as much. Maybe more i don't remember. I know what i am doing in a draft even if i have 14 , i would have hope , but in an auction (because i have never done one) i wouldn't feel to confident throwing up 1,250 big ones. Maybe after 10 years of auction drafts and having some success in them my attitude would change.

Mike, your point is well taken but I encourage you to take the step in the side leagues.

I felt the same way before I did my first, the WCOFF 2003 Auction. I had a great time and did learn some valuable lessons. I think I finished just out of the playoffs. This year I'm doing much better in the NY NFFC Auction.

It's such a great event. All the teams come in with an absolute level field and your skill and guts (and a whole lotta luck) will determine the winner. But the most important thing is how much fun the interactive auction is. If you can find the budget to add a really great event, this is one you should try.

I think it was $600, you're right... but I think Greg is moving Baseball to have 2 versions. $1250 and $650. I assume he'll bring those pricepoints over to football in the future, too?
