Defensive Scoring In Satellite Leagues?

There is some confusion about the scoring for defenses in the NFFC Satellite Leagues and I'll take all the blame for this one. When we changed the scoring in the NFFC main event, Auction Leagues, Draft Champion leagues and Ultimate Leagues to provide more value to defenses that held opponents to 17 points or less, we made that known in the rules for each league. That scoring change was in print in January for all of those leagues.

When we posted the Satellite League rules months after that, I did not have the new defensive scoring change in place, a mistake made by me. The Satellite League scoring change was not officially made in the Rules link until recently and so some owners weren't sure which scoring system we were using. Some owners in satellite Draft Champions Leagues said they read the Draft Champions League scoring system, not the satellite league rules scoring system and drafted accordingly.

It's on me and I apologize.

The NFFC scoring system will be used for ALL leagues in 2006, which means ALL leagues will give out 12 points for defenses that shut out their opponents; 8 points for allowing 2-7 points by the entire team; 4 points for allowing 8-12 points by the entire team; and 2 points for allowing 13-17 points by the entire team. This gives defenses a little more value than it did in 2005.

It's a scoring change after the draft and I can understand if there was confusion. I assumed owners were drafting in the satellite leagues with the defensive scoring of 2006 in place, but obviously it wasn't clear. It's my mistake.

Do me a favor if you were confused and now disagree with my decision: contact me at [email protected] with your phone number and I'll call you personally. We want all of the NFFC leagues to be scored consistently and move forward with the correct format for all leagues. The confusion for the satellite leagues falls on me and I'll take the blame if it needs to be directed somewhere.

We had 27 satellite leagues with many different formats. All will use the 2006 defensive scoring system. Thanks for your understanding and sorry for the confusion.

I didn'tknow of this at all. I just read satellite rules. I would have put more value on drafting a defense in earlier round if I'd known (obviously in hindsight some knew as defenses did seem to go before I expected them to in both my satellites). But, either us guys who didn't know will be disappointed with the switch or those that thought it was changed will be disappointed if it isn't switched.

I don't need a call though...it sounds like the decision is made and I've already read your apology...don't need you to waste money and time repeating the apology on the phone. Printed version got accepted.

No problem with it. The defensive scoring being weighted a little more is not a big deal. I think that teams with bad defenses will think about crying foul, but in actuality, most teams would look the same. If you would have drafted earlier, then there's a player drafted earlier we wouldn't have.

Personally, I think defense is tough to call. How much earlier would defenses have been drafted? 1-2 rounds? Maybe in some cases, but I think for the most part, things would be the same. A strong team is a strong team.

Thank you for taking the time to post this before the main week one games begin.
