Is there a deadline? Given we need a round number of entries to fill out leagues, do we have info on where auction leagues stand for NYC and or Las Vegas?

I am also curious about the format of the auctions. I think I asked this in the past but forget. I have done auction baseball leagues for 15 years. But we made our own system for bidding on players where it went around the room in a measured way. Is the NFFC auction a situation where people shout out bid in a rapid fashion until someone gets the player? What is the format for bidding?

Each owner has a megaphone in order to shout out their bids....the owner who's the loudest wins. It's done just like most auctions are done. $$$$$$$$$$$$ amounts are said aloud until the highest bid is reached....auctioneer then does the going once, twice, etc....then Ahman Green is awarded to the owner who bid a measley $9! :D

BTW, NFFC signup list is where you want to go for all leagues in each city.

I have done auctions for a long time in baseball and we set up our own way of delivering bids that were more paced and allowed for some strategy. I just wondered if this was one of those auctions where guys are shouting and it is a chaotic free for all or if there was some rhythm to the bidding process.

James,

I saw 25 people signed up for the NY Auctions so far. You'd have to depend on another 13 people to join the Auction to fill the league. The way Tom and Greg do it is, each 14 people that sign up for a DC or Auction event are guaranteed a spot. After that, you're relying on a league completely filling up in order to particiapte. This is why it always pays to join early. I hope you get to play. Even if you don't get to play this year, feel free to PM me with any questions about the Auctions.

James, we have three spots left for the $650 auction league in New York on Friday at the New York Hilton. That will fill up two leagues and we'll be happy with that. The auction process is organized well as we go around the room for teams that nominate the players to be bid on. There is a strategy involved in who you want to nominate, obviously. But once the player is nominated and the opening bid is provided, then anyone can shout out the next bid. The auctioneer determines who had the bid in first and continues until nobody else bids. "LT2 for $76 going ONCE....TWICE....SOLD.

Easy as that.

James, I guess what I'm seeing on those signup boards are a few people who would rather do a $1300 league on the signup sheet for the $650...Maybe Greg isn't counting them. If that's the case, you've got room to join. I suggest you do it. My advice used to be to join an online auction first, and then do the live event after a year under your belt, but honestly, the guy who does it in NY is the best auctioneer they could probably ever get to handle this type of event. So I suggest you sign up A.S.A.P. so those last spots aren't filled. Feel free to PM me with anymore questions about the events. Good or Bad....I'll let you know. It's no secret. People buy who they like. If a guy walks in with a Saints Jersey, I'm making him pay for Reggie Bush....LMAO...It's all a chess game James, nothing more.

Greg,

Thanks. I guess I was asking my question poorly. I completely understand how the players are brought up and the strategy in that. I also completely understand how to bid up players and the concept of that. My question (which you did answer) was once a player was brought up how is the bidding done. I wondered if it was sort of all 14 owners shouting out bids until the auctioneer identifies who gets the player or if there is a different manner for bidding.

Thanks

Thanks Yes, it's an organized shout and the auctioneer determines who got the winning bids in. Trust me, it's less unorganized than you'd think. Guys take their time before getting into the bidding and it works well.
