A slow auction

Post by Coltsfan » Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:36 am

There seems to be some interest in starting a slow auction for 2009. I assume that Greg would need to approve the league but I'm guessing that won't be a problem. We can actually host the auction right here on this site - it should be fairly easy to do. Here's my ideas but let me know what you think.

The entry fee and payouts would be the same as the slow draft with $125 entry, 2nd place getting their money back, and 1st place winning the remainder after expenses.

The auction would start in the next week or so. We would set a turn order to nominate players and do it in a serpentine fashion just like a regular auction. The first day we would have the first 4 players nominate somebody and those players would be auctioned off the following day. Each player would have $208 to spend with a standard DC roster of 26 spots and standard nffc scoring.

Bidding would go the entire day until 10:00 central time in the evening. At that point in time the high bid wins. If the post is at 10:01 then it is not a valid bid. In the event of a tie then the first bid wins.

The next day we would have the next 4 players nominate their 4 guys to auction with the bids once again starting the following day. It will rotate like this until all 364 players have been auctioned. This process will last 6 months and should be a whole lot of fun. It will definitely keep the boards interesting through the spring.

The great thing about this will be the strategy in who to bring up when. Do you bring up Leinart early in case Warner retires? Is Derrick Ward a guy to bring up right away before his situation is clear? Some guys may go for huge discounts early due to timing while others may be way over valued right now. After the nfl draft we would then be able to bring up the rookie players to auction but until then they won't be bid on.

These are just my thoughts. I don't want to beat it all to death but if there are improvements to be made to this then let me know. I'll start a signup list and maybe we can get this rolling in a week or two. If so we'll be done mid July by the time the main satellites get started. :D

The only team in NFFC Main Event history to win 11 games and not cash. :(

1683.8 pts. in 2009 is the record for a team with just 2 wins. Old record - 1479.95

[/QUOTE]Wayne,

11 PM would work for me, but I think there were at least 2 others that were in the other draft that may need a time later than that.

Thank you,
Mark

I'm a little reluctant to go too late. It might make it harder for those on those east coast to stay up and bid (assuming they might want to wait until the last minute.) I think 11 should work fine.

We're up to 5 now! Should I add you in Mark? Also, didn't Rob say he wanted in?
