Anyone still into regular league?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Oct 08, 2004 2:34 am

Have no fear, Greg and Tom are here night and day. It's not our job to create posts to get the talk going, but we'll respond when needed. Trust me, it's not uncommon to have most of the smack talk going before the draft and then have the talk on the message boards about injuries, disappointing players and rules changes after that. It happened in our baseball event, too, which had LOTS of pre-season chatter, little talk during the season and now all kinds of talk as we prepare for the next season.

The interest is still there for the big league, it's just that the smack talking has been diminished by the fact that few teams are perfect at this point.

Liquid Empire...no, it's not a typo. My name for him from day one has been "Geeko"

Sort of fits, doesn't it? ;)

I, for one, hesitate to talk smack when my team is successful. I prefer to be gracious in victory. But get me into the cellar, and no one is safe from the verbal scythe of the Reaper.

The nature of the stakes may actually contribute to the lack of chatter. I was in the tavern last night preparing for 'waiver day' and one of the biggest MB smack talkers from my bar league looked at my reports and said "that's why I won't join that league - too much work" (and then proceeded to complain how his partner dropped their only QB not on a bye in order to pick up Jermaine Wiggins, and wanted to sit Javon Walker in favor of Artose Pinner...)

In my case it's taking every bit of energy to keep winning and scoring points while my RBs -
L. Suggs, M. Williams, R. Daynde and C. Perry (who I just heard are working part time for Blue cross - Blue Shield) that I don't have too much time to listen to how great everyone else's team is.
I also have no interest (since I wanted to play but wasn't selected) in the other league. My guess is now that their draft is over they'll be looking for some other thing to talk about on the boards.

One way to have more buzz on the boards is to allow trading in te leagues next year. There has to be a way we can prevent colusion between owners if that is the reason we don't allow it.

In other leagues I am in the commissioner must approve all trades and fellow owners can counter the commissioners approval with a majority vote against the trade (BTW - It has never happened in my 9 years of playing in that league).

You want legitimate discussion about fantsy football on the message board - Add trading to the mix and see the quality of the postg increase 100 fold.

It was my job to assemble all of you to this party, but it's your job now to have fun. I've provided the intoxicants for this party, now go at it!!!

I think we've had great Message Board discussions since the season started. Kevin is right when he says there's a lot of talk on the mid-season league right now because most of the posters are in that league and their discussion of a rules change produced those two mid-season leagues. When we talk about that league, we ARE talking about the NFFC's main event as there are potential rules changes that could affect the NFFC in 2005. I'm not saying I agree with the suggestions, but that league is trying them out, which in effect is part of the big league we're all here for.

I have fun reading these boards each day and your 341 posts Rick (yes, you've been active) have helped. You just tell me when you need me to chime in or start a new thread, and I'll do it. I'm always here, lurking in the background!!!

Sorry, John. Too much money at stake to be trading in the main event. However, you could pull a Gekko and maybe have a side event for those who want to participate in that sort of league. I'm sure Greg and Tom would love to be able to offer the populace a wide variety of FF games so those like me who are only in the 3 here in the NFFC can have all there fun in one place.

Uh, gee... just to be a sheep I'll make a post.

My team needs some help, has some holes. I need to stay healthy and hope my players do well.

Anyone care to talk about it?

(how boring...)
