Auction league in New York

Post by BillyWaz » Sat Aug 14, 2004 5:04 am

I was just curious to how many are signed up for the auction league in NYC? I am signed up, but if it were to be cancelled, it would change my plans quite a bit (hotel, when I leave, etc.), and I wanted to know if we didn't reach the 14 teams what would would happen, and how late would you make a decision?

Thanks,

BillyWaz

Billy, even if we don't have enough participants in one particular city, we still have plans to put together auction leagues. One thing we are considering is doing a phone auction where we would combine teams from two cities into one overall league. We did this for baseball with the NFBC and it went very well. I realize it's a bit different for an auction, but Greg and I have talked about it quite a bit and neither of believe that it couldn't work smoothly. We'd be relying on our draft facilitators (and we have some very qualified folks lined up in every city) to make sure the plan went off without a hitch.

That's just a possibility, mind you. We'll know more as we get closer to Aug. 30, which is the last day we'll be taking applications for the events. We'll keep you guys posted.

Sounds great Tom! I just want to make sure I could change my plans if I needed to, but it appears that I won't have to.

No way I'm doing a phone patch auction! Don't even think about it. If we're talking the phone patch to run the auction I'll take the refund first.

Been doing auctions for 9 years now, and have done phone patches for a few people... it really isn't all that bad!

We haven't made any official decisions about what we'll do if we come short in some leagues. We'll know more as we get closer to the cutoff date on Aug. 30.

Glad to hear the NEW YORK Auction would be a go if 14 don't sign in for the site. I have no problem doing an Auction via conference call in New York (if need be) after seeing how professional the baseball operation was handled. I understand it would be more involved with an Auction, but the facilitators could make it work. Count me in and hope a few others see the light in how much fun the Auction version will be. C'mon guys - GET off da fence.

Obviously, the best-case scenario is that we have full leagues in each city drafting and bidding away and everyone's having a good time. But if we do come up short in a particular city we want to explore every avenue available to us in order to keep the league(s) alive and enable everyone who signed up for the event to participate. That's our No. 1 priority and we'll do whatever we can to make sure that transpires. So if we do come up short, a phone auction is something we'll consider. I don't know if that will be our ultimate decision, but it is a possibility. Fortunately, we have some very knowledgeable facilitators in each city so if we did go that route, I have no concerns whatsoever that we could make it work and make it work successfully.

But our No. 1 goal is to fill up every league in every city on site. And, of course, you guys can help us do that by continuing to spread the word. That's why we have our referral program in place.
