Week 12 Statistics
Here are some stats to play with:
MOST POINTS HAS BEST RECORD
Chicago 1
Chicago 3
Las Vegas 2
Las Vegas 5
New York 1
New York 2
New York 3
New York 5
8 out of 16 teams (50%) wins league
Analysis: Need to reward the Top Point Scorer with more money. My vote would be to have a prize pool for the top two teams. If the Top Point Scorer is ALSO the Best Record, they would get a greater share of the money. Otherwise, Top Record and Top Point Scorer splits the pool.
BOTH PLAYOFF TEAMS ARE TOP 2 SCORERS IN LEAGUE
Chicago 1
Chicago 3
Las Vegas 1
Las Vegas 2
Las Vegas 3
Las Vegas 5
Las Vegas 6
New York 1
New York 2
New York 3
New York 4
New York 5
New York 6
26 out of 32 teams (81.25%) make playoffs
ANALYSIS: Seems fair to me. A few weeks ago, this was 24/32 (75%). The cream has risen, as it usually does. 6 teams were lucky (see below).
TOP 32 TEAMS NOT IN PLAYOFFS
#19 (Chicago 4)
#20 (Las Vegas 5)
#24 (Las Vegas 4)
#26 (Las Vegas 3)
#28 (Chicago 4)
#31 (Chicago 2)
Analysis: ...and 6 teams were unlucky. Note that only two of the Top 10% are in this group. Maybe the rule should be if you're in the Top 15 of all scorers, you are guaranteed a spot.
"WORST" TEAMS TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS
#49 (Chicago 4) - wins league
#48 (Chicago 1) - runner-up
#46 (New York 1) - runner-up
#42 (Las Vegas 4) - wins league
#39 (Las Vegas 2) - runner-up
#34 (Las Vegas 1) - wins league
Analysis: Again, this looks a lot better than a few weeks ago. Everyone who makes the playoffs, even the lucky ones, are in the top quartile of teams.
This will be revisited next week. Gordon, since there is no mention of the #2 overall team here, I look forward to your comments.

So, the #49 team wins a league (cha ching, $5k) and has a shot at the $100k overall prize, but the #19 team gets 3rd place money ($500) and gets to make a run at the consolation cash?
Anyone else bothered by this? It's not me, but what if it had been...

[/QUOTE]GG, abandon this catch-all proposal. The NFFC doens't need a drip plate to catch the overflow. The BCS has been 're-perfected' many times... learn from the insanity and find a better solution.

I don't want dumb luck to rule - and I don't want dumb rules to force more dumb rules.

It's quite fitting that Dyv and GG are into this topic. However, I'm surprised the other 6 "Top Points w/o Winning The League" teams aren't more vocal about how they're getting screwed out of the top league prize.

I still have a fighting chance going into week 13 (top team loses and I win) and I'm not upset about taking league 2nd place. It's an issue that should be addressed for next year, but this year it is what it is.
It's crazy that my points hurt me in the main event and my record hurts me in the Auction format (9-3 record but not making a 6 team playoff with the 3rd best record...) so I get screwed on both sides of the rules, but making it better for next year is satisfactory
