Another fantasy football season is coming to a close and as the Commissioner of this fine league I must ask the obvious question:
Are you still having any fun??
I ask this in all seriousness because after five years of the NFFC, it's important to keep our contest fresh and enjoyable. I like to compare the NFFC to a local fantasy football league because we have the same ups and downs as any local league. After five years, we kind of know each other pretty well and like any local league we have:
** Owners who do well consistently and win a lot of money.
** Owners who are the villains.
** Owners who struggle from time to time but earn money regularly.
** Owners who only play for the money and are unbearable when they don't cash every year.
** Owners who just love the comraderie of draft day and will continue to come back every year.
Because of all this and because of the bad economy, it almost feels like there's more stress in the NFFC this year than any other year. I'm sure it's all part of the growing pains of any contest, but it's worth noting because like any local league it needs to be addressed. Tom and I want to make the NFFC as enjoyable as possible and we look forward to paying out over $750,000 in prizes this year, but is that still enough??
It's impossible to keep everyone happy in the NFFC and enough stuff happened in the NFL this year (injuries, the hurricane, a canceled game, etc.) to give people reason to doubt this crazy hobby. You need skill and some luck to win at fantasy football and that was certainly proven this year.
But at the end of the day, hopefully you also had some fun on Draft Day, some fun in your leagues, and you enjoyed the competition. It's not all about the money, although that's what we're all chasing. Hopefully there's still some love of the intense competition, the comraderie that the NFFC brings and the thrill of victory when it happens. So many of you have won at fantasy football in the past that you probably can't believe it when you don't cash in the NFFC. But trust me, if you win money here, you've really done something because this is truly the best of the best.
Sorry for the rant, but it's been an interesting year to say the least and I've already received some e-mails from folks who just missed a money spot and admittedly are wondering if the NFFC is in their future. That's understandable. But hopefully along the way you had some fun and you enjoyed the competition. And maybe, just maybe, you'll want to do it again.
Good luck everyone in the playoffs and in the consolation round and may all your players stay healthy for the stretch run!!

Oh yeah. Check out Fisher's Reggie Hammond proclamation if you have any doubts.
It seems like the MB is much more active for this playoffs (because of the mill?) than in previous years when it seems to slow down at this time because some teams are out of it.

But Are You Still Having Any Fun...
Truthfully, I'm not having fun.
Besides my team having injuries and bad matchups down the stretch, I got screwed by another owner.
The only week this experienced player decided not to set his lineup he played the team in 2nd place. He sat his best WR, this WR was active every other week except his bye. I, of course, held 1st place at the time. A win by this unnamed team guarantees me 1st place hth. So this unnamed team loses by a little when he could have won with the lineup he has set every other week. When I lose in the last week I drop from 1st to 3rd. If he sets his lineup, I'm in the 3 week playoff for league championship and playing for the big prize.
I'm so pissed right now that I plan not to play here again. That may change when Greg calms me down, but we'll see.
I wasn't going to post about this, but Greg started this thread.

I wasn't going to post about this, but Greg started this thread. Sorry to hear that happen Paul. I saw You just missed out, to miss out like that is not good. Did You alert anyone? Could anything have been done? This is why I started the topic 'How many here know that both'. That did not happen in NFFC or NBC League. I do think this kind of thing needs to be stopped.
I always have fun, weather it been getting killed in last years NFFC or this years NBC or making the Championship round in NFFC. I play here because I want to compete against the best. I think in the NFFC there is no 'Soft League' that's what I like about it(NFFC).
Next year will be a very tough year, I think lowing the NBC to say a 500 buy in would be a good start. Than go from there. NFFC please don't change at all. Like Rob said that is Your 'High Stakes League'. Lower the NBC get people hooked and there Yours.
Greg and Tom do a Great Job and I couldn't be any happier with there Product/Service/Fun they provide.
Thanks,
John

JerseyPaul.
That sucks. I hope it was a mistake and not collusion.
Greg - I had fun last year when we joined NFFC - We did bad and made $0 in the main event, auction and MD league live in Vegas. I have decided it is even more fun when you win. Yes, this year is more fun.
Seriously, great job. It took doing well to really appreciate the playoff/no need for a playoff aspect of the big leagues. It is a great format. You can win the league regular season if you sweep record and points or battle it out if you split. Very cool.
Thanks.

I wasn't going to post about this, but Greg started this thread. Paul, you know I ALWAYS enjoy talking with you, so I look forward to our next conversation about this. See, this is EXACTLY the type of e-mails I've been getting this week. I understand the pain, but it's not me or the NFFC at fault my friend.
I just looked at your league and you had the best h2h and total points heading into Week 13 in the NBC Sports format. All you had to do was finish in the Top 6 for the best h2h record and beat two other teams for the entire $5,000 to get into the Championship Round. You posted a 101.55 for eighth best and lost Week 13 and fell from first to third in total points. It's a bummer for sure, but part of the 13-week schedule, right?
But I feel your pain and trust me I've read this story several times this week. Some worst than yours. And like I said, this feels like a local league where guys I know personally are saying they are going to quit the league because of what happened this year. It's all part of any fantasy league, I suppose, but it feels deeper this year for some reason. I'll blame the economy.
You're still the best in my book Paul. Good luck and congrats on third place.

I wasn't going to post about this, but Greg started this thread. That sucks Paul and I would be pissed to. In my local something similar happened, but it was a dead owner doing it the final 4 weeks rather then just one odd ball week. He played two teams fighting for playoff spot and in the end one team got knocked out by 1 win. That team winning played this dead team in the final week. I bitched about this team and was given the, There is nothing we can do about it line. I say he gets booted is what you do about it. Anyway, my rant isn't making you feel better about it, but hopefully this wasn't collusion and karma comes back to you in a good way and him and a bad one.

But Are You Still Having Any Fun...
Even with two main event teams that were not competitive I had a blast this year.
I enjoy the process as much as reaping the rewards for a good season. The journey is what makes it fun even when you do not reach your goals.
Playing hard to the finish is fun, as knowing you did your best when the chips are down is satisfying.
Competing against the best is fun.
Talking FF is kind of fun when it doesn't always turn to who is better than whom because of whatever. That is old, tiresome and unfortuneately, not going anywhere.
I had another fun season and I am looking forward to another great year in 2009.
