Feedback Needed On DC And Auction Championship Prizes
Last year we debuted our NFFC Auction Championship contest and our Draft Champions Championship contest with mixed results. I say mixed because we ended up with only four leagues total in each contest, but overall I thought the competition was very good. William Cleavenger dominated the DC format to win the debut overall title, while Jason Santucci won the debut Auction Championship grand prize.
We have every intention of going forward with both formats this year and having league prizes and overall prizes. But I've listened to our owners who said the overall prizes took too much away from the league prizes and I've scaled those back some. We've kept most of the prize money within the league this year, while still creating the overall championship with a worthy prize pool. Let me know what you think and if we should add more or even take out more.
Both contests have $850 entry fees this year to keep this in line with what we're doing in baseball and football. I am only basing the overall prize pool on four leagues total for each contest. If we can expand beyond that we'll obviously add more prize money to the overall prize pool. Right now we are giving $1,625 from each league to the overall prize pool and would add that with each additional league past four.
Here's my first run at the two prize pools. Let me know what you think as the feedback is very important.
2011 NFFC Draft Champions Championship
Overall Prizes
First Place = $3,500
Second Place = $1,500
Third Place = $1,000
Fourth Place = $500
League Prizes:
First Place = $4,200
Second Place = $2,100
Third Place = $1,000
2011 NFFC Auction Championship
Overall Prizes
First Place = $3,500
Second Place = $1,500
Third Place = $1,000
Fourth Place = $500
League Prizes:
First Place = $3,200
Second Place = $1,600
Third Place = $800
Regular Season Head-to-Head Champion: $850
Regular Season Total Points Champion: $850
Thoughts?

At a very quick glance Greg, I like it.
Anything that puts more $$$ back into the league is OK by me. That being said, I gotta think we somehow get that overall prize to $5,000 for each league.
It just looks so much prettier than $3,500!
Edit: Just read more carefully, and if we get more leagues, more $$$ for the overall prizes.
Seems doable to me!

The more money in the leagues, the better.
The flatter the payouts (less money to 1st Place), the better.
Thank you!

Seems doable to me! Yeah, one more league of each contest would put us at $5,000 Billy. Last year I tried for a $10,000 grand prize and obviously took too much out of the overall prize pool. I think that hurt our final numbers as we finished with only four leagues of each contest. Now we're back to where we were with the league prizes back in the old days -- albeit at $200 more per team in entry fees -- and we still have a national contest with overall prizes. Hopefully it's a happy medium. And like you said, let's push forward and get a few more leagues. Thanks guys.

A couple things.
First, I would like to see the 14 teams pay the same as the 12 teams for league fees. If you are going to take 25% for league fees, how about taking it out of just the first 12 players. As it stands now, you make $2550 off a 12 team league and $2975 off a 14 team league (it seems like you could cut the 14 team leagues a little break as they are harder to win and I doubt it is much more cost to run a 14 league vs a 12 league).
Like everyone has stated, more money in league payouts is better. The overall is about a title and a little something something on the side.
I would like to see 9350 payed out as
1st $5000
2nd $3000
3rd $1000
Overall
1st $200 (6 leagues would pay $1200)
2nd $100 (6 leagues would pay $600)
3rd $50 (6 leagues would pay $300)
If you need bigger overall prizes
1st $4600
2nd $2700
3rd $1000
Overall
1st $600 (9 leagues would pay $5400)
2nd $300 (9 leagues would pay $2700)
3rd $150 (9 leagues would pay $1350)
My 2 cents

I wish the "make" had no expenses involved Mike. Unfortunately there are plenty of expenses with live events. All of our live events have a 75% payback and the online contests have an 80% payback. We don't have 12-team Auction or DC live contests, so I'm not sure where that comparison comes into play.
Your scenario above pays out 81% with only an $800 grand prize for four leagues. We can cut it anyway you folks want and that's what this discussion is for, so now we have options to talk about. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of these Overall championship hybrids, but you got to do what you got to do to appeal to the masses and grow your business (ie. RBs at a full PPR).
Less money to the overall, more to the leagues is my vote.
I'll play in the Auction again this year, but rather do a $1300 single league DC. Will you offer one this year? We almost had enough folks interested last year.

You had 12 team DC's two years ago (I know because we won one of them). With your post about leaning towards more 12 team leagues this year ... I guess it was stupid of me to think you might bring the 12 team DC back ... I am just an idiot I guess.

Thanks. Minor point but ... 9,350 / 11,900 is 78.57% not 81%, so I really wasn't wanting trying to squeeze you as hard as you might think.
$800 overall prize is 100% OK with me. Everyone including Billy has wanted more money into the leagues. Billy also wants a $5000 top prize but he needs to realize he can't have it both ways. You introduced the overall prize and lost 1/2 your leagues last year.
Why are you so dismissive of the top prize being $800 and a nice trophy. I don't recall anyone calling for a big overall DC prize last year. This year EVERYONE posting is calling for bigger league prizes. A bonus $800 on top of 4K+ would be fine with me. Anyone else agree?

I will gladly offer $1300 Auction and DCs this year as those have been part of the NFFC since Year One. We always had a few folks who wanted to step up that game. But I'd love to keep them part of the overall championship as well, just like we do it for $1300 auctions in baseball. Send the same $1,625 to the overall and keep the remaining percentage within the league, thus providing bigger league prizes.
Sound good?
