Feedback Needed On DC And Auction Championship Prizes

Do the auctions have 6 team playoffs to get to the money also?

Your Auction league was what drew me to the NFFC back in 2004. I love this format but HATE the NFFC playoff format at the end of the season.

Year after year I have been personally shafted by the playoff system to the point we quit playing it. Last year was a huge step in the right direction and we got back in it because of the improvements to the back end (paying something for most points scored and best record and limiting the playoff teams to 4 instead of 6).

Personally, i would like to see the playoffs go away and do a 16 week ALL PLAY for 1/2 the prize money and total points for the other 1/2.

I always felt the auction was the most skilled player valuing format ... and for whatever reason it seemed to have the biggest luck factor stuck on the end of it and it felt like it removed the skill factor from the format.

Anyone else agree?

Anyone else agree? I too prefer this type of scoring but I think that this discussion comes up fairly regularly and usually ends with a majority preferring some form of playoffs.

Wow there's an awful lot of posturing early on. I guess the NFL is rubbing off on fantasy!
Mike.......Welp says to pipe down or he'll take care of you when we get to town :D

Hey Greg......I like what you're doing making adjustments to the auction league prizes and downscaling the overall. Let me posture in the opposite direction and say definately put me down for the auction championship.

I'm not typically a big advocate for overall prizes at the expense of league prizes but I gotta tell you....I really liked the overall auction c-ship last year because IT WAS FUN BABY!

Multiple ways to win...Best H2H...High points....3 in 4 cash in league platoffs....4 in 12 cash in overall playoffs.

This format is interesting and offers decent ROI if you win it all. For me this is what Diesel was promoting when he suggested an overall auction c-ship years ago.

I don't make ROI the bottom line for every league I'm in because I started playing FF because of the fun and challenge.

I think ROI is something...it's just not everything to me.....especially in an $850 league.

Sign me up Greg...I'm all in for this!

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. Yeah, I might hold out a bit on these two contests before deciding. Again, the setup I had announced rewarded all league champions pretty well. If you win your league, you're likely going to win additional overall prize money and in one case it's a lot of prize money. And the format gave everyone in the Championship Round a pretty good shot at winning the grand prize.

I can't satisfy everyone in this format, whether it's the prize money or the playoff format or number of playoff teams or whatever. We'll just have to make a good decision and hope to grow this format as best as we can. Trust me, I love the DC and Auction formats and I've tried for years to spur their growth in football. We've definitely done that in baseball and it's fun to see the auctions growing there, but it's been harder in our football format.

At this point I might just appease the loudest and stick with private leagues in these two formats. We'll see, but I want growth and if national contests are being seen as hampering that growth then we'll just stick to private leagues. Convince me otherwise and we'll see.

Maybe a survey of the customer base would be a good idea?

1) There aren't too many of us who post regularly this time of the year so using our input may not accurately reflect the needs of your customers as a whole.
2) With this being a new chapter in the products life, a survey would be a good way to gain insight and engage them. Engaging them now is a good idea, especially with the high stakes landscape changing a bit and also because of the uncertainty due to the labor issue. Assuring them that you are moving forward and will be ready if the players and NFL get their acts together could be timely and help them plan.

Questions relating to price points for live and online games, one or two weekends and game structure concepts could help you take the next step as you seek to broaden your product line.

Maybe a couple of choices rather than an open ended discussion. It could be as simple as private league and overall c-ship.

Maybe the compromise could be to award one prize of 1K to the overall champion just marketed as a "Bonus prize" and keep everything else in the league prizes.

At least that gives us a few extra bucks for having the best overall season. Give that money to the overall points champion as a bonus and we still get bragging rights and maximum league prizes.

If I had to compromise I would be ok with something like this. I will play in whatever format just because i love auctions.

Great thread and ideas from all. I totally agree with putting the majority, if not all, of the winnings into the leagues. I can see a smal percentage to an overall champion. Maybe $1-2K, depending on the number of entries. The live scoring is a must in order to get the most enjoyment from the DC's. I Know it will be hard to please everyone, but I also know Greg and stats will do their best to make it better with the input from all the seasoned vets we have in the NFFC.

From the 10K overall DC winner last year ... a ringing endorsement for a very small overall prize.
