Feedback Needed On DC And Auction Championship Prizes

Last year we debuted our NFFC Auction Championship contest and our Draft Champions Championship contest with mixed results. I say mixed because we ended up with only four leagues total in each contest, but overall I thought the competition was very good. William Cleavenger dominated the DC format to win the debut overall title, while Jason Santucci won the debut Auction Championship grand prize.

We have every intention of going forward with both formats this year and having league prizes and overall prizes. But I've listened to our owners who said the overall prizes took too much away from the league prizes and I've scaled those back some. We've kept most of the prize money within the league this year, while still creating the overall championship with a worthy prize pool. Let me know what you think and if we should add more or even take out more.

Both contests have $850 entry fees this year to keep this in line with what we're doing in baseball and football. I am only basing the overall prize pool on four leagues total for each contest. If we can expand beyond that we'll obviously add more prize money to the overall prize pool. Right now we are giving $1,625 from each league to the overall prize pool and would add that with each additional league past four.

Here's my first run at the two prize pools. Let me know what you think as the feedback is very important.

2011 NFFC Draft Champions Championship

Overall Prizes
First Place = $3,500
Second Place = $1,500
Third Place = $1,000
Fourth Place = $500

League Prizes:
First Place = $4,200
Second Place = $2,100
Third Place = $1,000

2011 NFFC Auction Championship

Overall Prizes
First Place = $3,500
Second Place = $1,500
Third Place = $1,000
Fourth Place = $500

League Prizes:
First Place = $3,200
Second Place = $1,600
Third Place = $800
Regular Season Head-to-Head Champion: $850
Regular Season Total Points Champion: $850

Thoughts?
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. We are getting ready to post all of our rules and prizes on the new STATS NFFC web site and I wanted one last feedback on the Draft Champions and Auction prizes. I hear you loud and clear that a national format is wanted yet with very little money going to the overall prizes. I have no problem with that as it's obviously less risk for us. I'd obviously love to grow both of these formats and eventually build a very worthy overall grand prize, but let's keep the league prizes as strong as possible now and hopefully get more leagues than planned so that we can keep increasing the overall prizes.

Right now I have gone to our payout format that we've had in other contests and have kept the entry fee at $850 for the Draft Champions Championship and gone with league prizes of:

League Prizes:
First Place = $5,000
Second Place = $2,500
Third Place = $1,250

and an overall prize pool based on four full leagues of:

Overall Prizes
First Place = $750
Second Place = $250
Third Place = $150
Fourth Place = $100

We could cut third place in the league prizes by $250 if you'd like, which would add another $1,000 to the overall prize pool, but it's now a similar payout format to what we have in the Classic leagues. First place now receives almost 6x entry fee and also has a chance for additional overall prize money.

Let me know your thoughts on the DC Championship. I'm finishing up the Auction Championship now. We can tweak these before we post them live, but please provide feedback soon if you can. Thanks all.

I am leaning towards this prize payout for the NFFC Auction Leagues, which also have $850 entry fees:

The NFFC Auction Championship now has league and overall prizes. They are as follows:
Overall Prizes
First Place = $500
Second Place = $250
Third Place = $150
Fourth Place = $100
Consolation Prize Winner: $250

League Prizes:
First Place = $4,000
Second Place = $2,000
Third Place = $850
Regular Season Head-to-Head Champion: $850
Regular Season Total Points Champion: $850

I'd 86 the 4th place overall prize money. For that matter I'd just have 1st place Overall money, then it really is special if you win.

Clearly I will be in the minority in this thought process...

It's obvious you are going with a low "overall payout", which is fine (as I too was in favor of putting it back into the leagues), but I guess my feeling is.........

"Why have it at all?"

I'm guessing the recognition of being the overall champion??? And Jules, you aren't alone, I too say get rid of 4th place and since we aren't playing for much, put it all into first!

That all being said, I LOVE the new structure for the leagues, as that is some nice money to be won!

Thanks Greg! :D

Clearly I will be in the minority in this thought process... It's $250 from each league going to the overall or $1,000 total right now. The goal obviously is to one day have more than 4 leagues total and nice cash prizes for the top 3 or 4 finishers overall. It's our starting point to bigger and better things, so humor me on this. ;) We have four total leagues planned for the DC and Auction and if we get more than that we'll grow the pie a little more. Hopefully the league prizes are now solid enough that we can grow these side events in each and every city.

I know I'm late responding and the plans may have been laid, but here's a thought. Overall winner gets free entry into the following years DC and/or Auction Championship. Maybe it could be transferable, just in case a problem arises. I would then forget about 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in the overall.
