Planning Ahead For 2012 Classic League

You would pay out ten spots with each payout getting a rock solid reward for a top ten finish.

If you are going to shorten the big prize, I say why not balance these payouts more?

Do this with one of your two HS leagues and maybe more folks will play both?

Business angle: If more of these top ten have more money to spend next year, they will do just that. I like this too.

I like more in overall pool. Only thing I don't like is how topheavy most places have it. If my concern in a main event is league money, I will play a super or ultimate instead. In a main event, I want to be agressive and try and build an explosive juggernaut that can win the overall prize. Making the league more important defeats the purpose of what a main event is to an extent in my opinion.

If this is how it goes down (50k for 1st) then I might as well put down another $900 for the Super for a 1-15 shot at 20k as opposed to a 1-280 shot at 56k.

Without a big enough carrot, is the payback attractive enough to our die-hards to reach our guaranteed goals? I still think people believe a $75,000 top prize with less than 300 teams involved is a worthy prize, but going lower than that might hurt us more than the league prizes can help us.

Attracting more teams to the contest can solve all of that, but higher league prizes for a 14-team league makes sense to start off. Now let's find a way to keep a worthy carrot as well. Time to run some numbers through the spreadsheet and get more feedback. Both sides are right and both sides want to see the Classic succeed. I think we can do it by staying on both weekends and having Classic drafts that second weekend in Las Vegas. Stay tuned.

Okay, let's put some numbers down for the 2012 NFFC Classic and get some feedback from our players. I appreciate the honest opinions about the upcoming prize structure and I am sensitive to growing the league prizes while not taking the big carrot away. But to ensure both prizes, we need to grow this together. In this first proposal, I've taken $32,500 from the top three prizes and distributed that to all three prizes within the 20+ Classic Leagues. So 60+ teams benefit from three changes:

Overall -- League
1st $75,000.00 --- $5,600.00
2nd $10,000.00 --- $2,800.00
3rd $5,000.00 --- $1,400.00
4th $2,500.00
5th $1,400.00
6th $1,400.00
7th $1,400.00
8th $1,400.00
Total Points Leader $1,400.00
Combined Winner $1,400.00
Combined
1st: $5,000.00
2nd: $1,500.00
3rd: $750.00
4th: $500.00

Consolation
1st $2,500

If I budgeted for 300+ teams, we could actually shoot for league prizes of:
1st: $6,000
2nd: $2,800
3rd: $1,400

This is bringing the league payouts to 65%+ of total prize money, yet still keeping a $75,000 grand prize. I might have to look at the total payout percentage or budget for more teams than I had originally expected, but let's start the conversation here and discuss. Is this something that can maintain or grow the Classic league or are we hurting the lure of the contest without the $100,000 grand prize?

Here was last year's prize payout. Is this still a better option?

Those aren't appealing numbers to my eye. What I go to is only $600 more if I win my league, yet a $25,000 drop for the Overall Champ.

I'm not trying to knock your your mock-up, just looking at it from both as a player and from a marketing angle.

I would like to see that $25k go to the 2nd-5th spots if anything.

If I join a ME it's not because of the league prizes. I'm looking to make the Playoffs and get a shot at the big prize. $600-$300 and $150 just doesn't do anything for me while losing $25k off the big overall prize. I rather just join a super.

Now if you said take 25k from 1st and distribute it something like this........

1st: $75,000
2nd: $25,000
3rd: $15,000
4th: $6,500
5th: $4,000

Then this would interest me a lot more than possibly getting $600 more for winning my league.
