Renman, do you play many DC-type leagues? Pretty obvious to me that you don't. If you think all a DC is about is Scouting and drafting, you are sadly mistaken.
I'll go on record and say it's much easier to manage through injuries in a traditional. Advantage DCs.
Sit/start decisions? 95% of the time it's a no-brainer. Whereas DCs (of you're into looking this deeply) you are looking to match potential strengths in scoring from your later round players with the potential scoring weaknesses of your early round selections. Advantage DCs
Drafting to account for BYE weeks (if you're into that) is much more a challenge in the DC format. Advantage DCs.
I'll save the rest of my argument to myself and those that play and excel at the DC format.
Pretty silly to dismiss opposing viewpoints. Also, have you ever considered that Mike/Wayne/Moyer/and several other strong DC players don't want to have to come on here and educate you on what leads to their success?
Only 2 skills required to play in DCs, yes. Many more skills required to EXCEL in DCs, yes!
Back to my corner. Just Russ,
I knew some grown ups were out here! Thank you for being one of the few who has the maturity to actually talk about the subject at hand. It should be obvious that I don't play DC leagues because I have stated it about 4 times in this thread. Then again, I can't blame you for not reading every mind numbing post in this idiot exchange.
I didn't dismiss anyone or any opposing views. Do you have an example of what you said happening? What you just said (about DC leagues) in many ways supports my point. DC leagues are JUST ABOUT DRAFTING. Obviously the drafting is deeper, and the way you set up your roster requires a more strategy and attention than a traditional format league. Who doesn't know that? If the question was “which DRAFT is more challenging a DC or traditional format draft” I think the answer is obvious.
I am aware that in DC leagues the draft portion is more complex. There are zero things about fantasy football mike/wayne/moyer are going to be educating me on. I know all about DC leagues, how they work, what the rules are, what the strategies are. I have been playing the NFFC since year one. I absolutely love the event. I have looked closely at DC leagues and simply chose not to invest my limited fantasy resources in those formats. Maybe someday I will play one.
The MAIN DEBATE (which is only happening because a poster got upset over a harmless point) is/was about which format has more luck attached to results. I contend that the draft and "sit back and hope things break your way" format has a little more luck attached to the draft and "manage your team through the different things that happen during a football season" format.
No one is saying DC leagues and consistently successful DC players are not worthy of praise. One person made a completely harmless post 2 months ago saying "leagues where you draft and sit back and hope injuries break your way have a little more luck connected to them than leagues where you are challenged in all forms of fantasy football skill and you have to manage the team through the unpredictable parts of the season.."
A poster took personal offense to this for some unknown reason and here we are having this moronic debate weeks later. It's silly.
Gk,
Though it is appreciated, no need to protect me. All message boards have a small group of guys who gather as regulars. They at times create a bit of an online fraternity. Certain types of guys will always "pile on" an isolated voice. Certain types of guys will always mock hoping the fraternity will give them an ‘atta boy.” There are reasons it happens. Psych 101.
Nothing new. Hopefully people will allow friendly football debate and discussion to go on here. If the culture of this forum stays how it is, this forum will be visited by the same small handful of guys and few others for the foreseeable future.

James, I haven't been around long enough to be part of any "message board clique" as you put it, nor do I have any desire to be part of one if any actually do exist. I like & participate in the message boards because I find it fun, informative, & a relatively harmless pasttime. Any viewpoints I decide to share are mine and are never skewed by something as meaningless as popular opinion. In fact, you and I have agreed on a few in the past.
I've also met & chatted with you at a couple of live drafts now and found you to be a pretty nice guy.
So please take this as a completely impartial commentary from someone who does not take these message boards nor the message board feuds that occur on them seriously at all (and if anything gets a kick out of them ).
Last night, I did notice a bit of piling on when it came to you and these two threads. I considered writing a short post with a similar theme to the one Snake wrote (a little less combative of course), where I planned on stating that "you probably get the point by now and the piling on could probably stop". I eventually reconsidered. The reason I decided not to is the realization that you'd probably just come back with another post just like the couple you just wrote and in fact probably didn't get it.
I don't think you really see how you come off in your posts, nothing like you came off in person by the way. You're very dismissive of other people's opinions, to the point of being condescending. You always seem to have to have the last word, even if that word is a mere repeat of what you've stated ad infinitum previously. Mostly, there's no fun in your posts, you take this way too seriously.
I know you say you don't care about all this, but I know you care about the message & viewpoints you're trying to get across. What you don't realize is that the style of your posts as noted above transforms many of the threads you've joined from its original subject into a referendum about you....and your message gets lost.
That said, the piling on probably was a bit much last night, but at least for the most part I think it was done in the name of having fun rather than bullying. Some of it was very funny.
Have fun Bud, remember it's just a game.

OK folks, I'm going to make this real simple - let's keep the discussions on topic. I don't care who started what first. I don't care who said what first. We don't need posters taking shots (large or subtle) at one another. If that's the only way you can express yourself please refrain from posting here.
I agree with Billy that if you've made one statement a few times there's no reason to make it 100 times. Move on. Debate can be fun. Discussion can be healthy. But at some point you reach a point of no return where all you're doing (and this isn't directed at any one person just so we're clear) is repeating yourself endlessly. That's when the threads derail and nothing productive can be found. So I just ask everyone to use some common sense. Treat these boards like you would if you were actually talking to the person face-to-face. Treat everyone with respect. This seems to be a very simple request and it baffles me that Greg and I have had to repeat it so often over the years.
I will also say that while we encourage everyone to participate here we have found that people tend to be discouraged when one, two or three people dominate the boards. We've had numerous complaints about that over the years so this isn't something that's just happening now. There isn't a need to post in every thread. There isn't a need to dominate every discussion here. Let others chime in. We want these boards to be for our NFFC members, not just for a few people only to use. Once again, that would seem to be a simple request.
Once again, I'm directing this message to everyone. I hope everyone takes it to heart, reads what I've written and we can make this place a more enjoyable one for everyone.
Thank you.

Just kidding and well said on all points.
