On a completely different note, how was the auction last night? It isn't much more complicated then bouncing between record and pts. I've said it a million times, but I hate "total pts" being a main driver in what are billed as H2H lges. I don't give a sh*^ if someone scored 250 pts one week after sucking for 10 weeks. They don't deserve a top seed.
The auction was as expected, delayed for about an hour then went off fairly well. Anyone that signs up for one of these on Fantasy Auctioneer should expect 60-minutes of waiting around/chatting at some point during the auction. They're fun so long as you're not pressed for time.

Another one to add as was mentioned by FantasyFreakinFootball.com earlier this year and debated much further back is the change to have the FA bidding go to an EBay like version where you get the player for one dollar more than the highest lesser bid.
It's no accident Rob won in 06! He must struggle to keep all those brains in! This is how bidding works in the real world. All you luck guess mongers who want to see guys waist money or be caught underbidding should just go play the lotto or go watch a train wreck.
We should get a guy for what we are willing to bid as if it were happening in real life. Why should Rob be penalized for the rest of his league being too stupid to bid on his guy or lose a guy because of one other smart player in his league ... outguesses him and bids a dollar more? Great suggestion Rob. This should happen! Best improvement that could happen in 08!

But to make a blanket statment saying if you can't get in with the current system, then you don't deserve it is being a little obtuse in my humble opinion.
Russ - we are talking about 6 teams making the playoffs. If you can't get with 6 chances, you don't deserve to be there. [/QUOTE]Mark, fair enough. In a 6-to the playoffs scenario, I'd be for:
1st seed- Total Points
2nd-H2H
3rd- Total Points
4th- Total Points
5th- H2H
6th- H2H
Total points usually isn't skewed by 1 big week as some are suggesting. More often, it has been my experience that a team can have 6 week with an average score, let's say 120 pts. and lose 4 of the 6 weeks theoretically. Then for the other 6 weeks, they could score really well, let's say 160 and again go 4-2 theoretically. Then let's say the 13th week they score 250 and win.
So, their record is 7-6. With this scenario, they would total about 1930 total points.
Whereas a team averages 140, but happens to catch teams on their low weeks and goes 9-4 with a total of 1820.
Which is the more deserving team of a playoff spot?
IMO, the team with the most total points.

The team most deserving to win in a H2H lge, is the team that wins (or should win, i.e., all-play) most consistently. Total points is just a byproduct.

More Cowbell tied me for best record 9-4, and beat me by 14 points in the regular season, and therefore I had no shot at the extra $2,500.
As fate would have it, I did score more than them in the 3 week playoff. To make it worse, I had a better "all play" record and would have beat him H2H 9 of 13 times had we played H2H each week.
I take nothing away from them, as they had a great team, but when you look at all the "little details" like all play, etc. it is a tough pill to swallow.
Again, I HIGHLY doubt we will see that anytime soon, but I am all for it!!

Great example Waz, you deserved to win.
I hope Greg will consider situations like yours for 2008.

#6 here will wind up being a 6-7 team about 15% of the time, and that team could have a much lower point total than other playoff teams, and even non-playoff teams. It could be 6-7 with 9th most points for example as a worst case.
Under GG's scenario, that can't happen. The worst #3 H2H record is 8-5. Then #5/6 in GG's scenarios could have bad records, but at least they will have the most points and be more deserving.
This data comes from running 45 14-team h2h leagues and I went back last 5 years.

Even better is the all-play scenario! Seed the top 6 based on all play records.
Maybe we could do some satellites like this next year to "test" and let the idea grow?

Duke - what about all-play for ALL DC leagues?
Is my "weekend warrior" prep better than your prep?

The intensity of the weekly h2h matchup is diminished in all-play and would kill the FF Golden Goose.
