Draft position

Sorry, if this is being redundant, but when do we find out which position (1-14)we'll be drafting? I need to know NOW!!!

Unfortunately we can't help you now. We'll announce the draft positions for each league on Monday Aug. 29. You'll have to be a little more patient.

My two cents: please find a way next year to determine slot positions earlier, at least for those who buy in the event early. I don't start to strategize until I know my draft position. Giving us folks less than a week to strategize for a league that is as important as the NFFC is a no-no. -z-

Robert, what draft positions did you get the past 2 years in WCOFF that lead to your top 3 finishes?

I'm only jealous I haven't gotten a book out yet... I'm sure you're a hardcore gamer and worthy of the respect

I would like to know my position earlier as well, but I'm sure the issue is that if 2/3 of the leagues are drawn that someone could load the last few leagues with friends and potentially collude. Waiting to the end eliminates that 'hey, we could get 6 of the last 28 teams strategy...'

Leagues are drawn in each city after all entries are officially in. I wish we were full now, but I think all of us can still strategize for our given draft spot with the timeframe we have in place. Doing it the other way would be a definite no-no with stakes this high.

I understand you wouldn't want to draw slots NOW because then that would make it easy for the next league to fillup for people to join together for potential collussion. Here's a recommendation for next year that I think NFFC would benefit from as well as participants:

Draw slots after every 42 teams pay into the main event, same location. This does two things:

1) It encourages people to join and pay into the main event earlier to get their draft slot earlier. (good for NFFC)
2) It gives diehards and early birds more time to analyze draft strategy.
3) It prevents collusion since you do not know who will be in your league.

Something to ponder. -z-

Geezzzzzzzzzzz,

I plan most of my drafts all the way through pick 16/18. The time consuming aspect is creating the spread sheet with projections, ADP, and JPVBD.

Once draft position is known, it only takes a couple of hours to plan the draft.

In leagues where draft trading is allowed, it's possible to take greater advantage of value opportunities by trading up or trading down. This, of course, takes a lot of time. But in a no trade league, "a few days" is ("a few days" -1) too much time.

Interesting thoughts Z. At first glance I don't see logistical barriers here, although there certainly may be some. The immediate problem I do see, is that the diehards you speak of will generally NOT want to be placed in leagues with other diehards, at least not in these highstakes contests, as I am sure you will agree that it's commonly believed that mainstream owners usually start thinking about joining leagues in August. So in actuality, your suggestion will be counterproductive since it would actually cause many people to wait LONGER to join instead of sooner.
I think the only way draft slots can be released early is if the organizers place teams in random leagues as they signup but do not release the league numbers. This would require much more work on their part but I believe it can be done fairly and randomly. We'll see if it ever materializes. Until then, I guess the only thing that will help get the slots out sooner is selling out the event earlier.
