1) It encourages people to join and pay into the main event earlier to get their draft slot earlier. (good for NFFC)
2) It gives diehards and early birds more time to analyze draft strategy.
3) It prevents collusion since you do not know who will be in your league.
Interesting thoughts Z. At first glance I don't see logistical barriers here, although there certainly may be some. The immediate problem I do see, is that the diehards you speak of will generally NOT want to be placed in leagues with other diehards, at least not in these highstakes contests, as I am sure you will agree that it's commonly believed that mainstream owners usually start thinking about joining leagues in August. So in actuality, your suggestion will be counterproductive since it would actually cause many people to wait LONGER to join instead of sooner.
I think the only way draft slots can be released early is if the organizers place teams in random leagues as they signup but do not release the league numbers. This would require much more work on their part but I believe it can be done fairly and randomly. We'll see if it ever materializes. Until then, I guess the only thing that will help get the slots out sooner is selling out the event earlier. [/QUOTE]That would be interesting if you didn't use '14' chips to draw draft position but instead 14 x 22 leagues and numbered them from 1-308. That way you COULD draw as soon as payment is received and announce 'You have pick #7 (league 8, but you don't know that) or #11 (league 4, but you don't know that)' or whatever and you find out league assignment later.
Interesting thought - Greg/Tom - how about it?

If this is a test to see whom the best player is, then everyone should walk into the draft room and pull a draft pick out of one drum, and a league number out of another. The best player should be the one that can draft from any spot and win.
I wish Greg had the guts to do this Of course, this will never happen based on all the myths about drafts spots which were clearly dispelled on last years NFFC results.
The point is, the BEST player should have the knowledge to draft the best team possible from any position.

Cool idea. However, there is a risk that 22 players will get the 1st pick in advance, but then we later find out that only 20 leagues get filled up. I would think that the 2 owners having to switch picks last minute would not be very happy. Also, if there ends up being more than 22 leagues, you end up with a similar problem to one described earlier. All of the last entries get placed in the same league.

I've mentioned this awhile ago, but since we're on the subject. What one of my leagues does is called a Kentucky Derby Draft...You pick names out of a hat to determine which spot you draft from. The player who draws #1, gets to pick any drafting spot. The 2nd person to chose gets to pick any spot except the one that #1 chose, and so on and so on...#1 will probably always stick with the #1 slot, but you never know which spot everyone else will take. The draft is serpentine just like most others, but you chose your own destiny.

In a perfect world, I think it's a nice compromise between the draft-slot bidding and Ambrosius-family-selection processes. The biggest problem that I see is a timing issue. The signup deadline is only a few days before the actual draft, leaving very little time to coordinate 14 picks from each league. As it stands now, there's not much time to "strategize" on your draft order. This idea would certainly shorten the time prep time, especially for the unlucky schleps that picked #14.

Greg, I feel for you with all this criticism. Everybody..stop the complaining and suggesting. Joining a high stakes fantasy league and then trying to change the rules to suit yourselves is the ULTIMATE NO-NO. If you are an adept fantasy manager, you shouldn't need "weeks" to strategize your draft. I have played in a local "expert" league in Florida for the past 4 years and we have always found out our draft position MINUTES BEFORE the draft. In this age of information, one should be able to have a plan intact regardless of when their draft position is revealed. Also, the last time I checked..Greg and the boys are running this thing..NOT US!! And speaking of the boys...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
