Auction Money Count

I am just putting this out for discussion being that we put it out at our NFFC NY Auction League and seemed to be divided... some of us felt that to keep a running tabulation of the Auction Money for other owners would be an advantage for those not keeping track and a disadvantage to those owners who were keeping that information..I know I personally kept tabs of who could bid what on who and how high they would go..I believe that we need to put into the rules what round an auction money count should be done and how many times it should be done during the draft... if at all! or maybe to let the moderators keep track on the side...I think we have enough savvy owners to not let an owner exceed his bidding limit. What do you guys think ?

I agree...Most owners did know how much money they had but having a facilitator doing it by hand is not the way to run it. There should be a laptop present where you just need to punch in the players and numbers and less time and risk is taken.

Personally ... as someone who worked as a CPA ... I don't think someone should gain an advantage or disadvantage because of their book keeping skills.

The available money should actually be shown with big post it notes ... at the bottom of the draft board for all to see ... with every pick.

I'm not sure what happened in your leagues in the other cities, but the big auction draft boards had spots for the winning bid price and the remaining dollars for each team. Not showing the remaining money would be akin to saying we shouldn't show the remaining FAAB for each owner in every league during the season. Of course there should be a public showing of the remaining dollars for each team and there is a spot on the big draft board for that. In Las Vegas, both leagues did exactly as I said above and everyone knew how much money every team had left.

As for the breaks, each league dictates when they need a money check and break. In Las Vegas, one league wanted more breaks than the other league. No big deal. I've been in enough auctions to know that the owners can tell when it's time for a money check and break. With 50% of the money going in the first three rounds, it would be stupid to call for breaks at certain times. It all depends on which players are thrown out for auction.

If we had facilitators who couldn't subtract from $200, then that's one problem to solve. Having a laptop to keep track isn't any better than having a calculator.

In Las Vegas, we had no money issues.

I sat through the auction in Chicago and heard no complaints about the process as Rocky regularly stopped the proceedings to update the money count and max bids for each team. I liked the draft so much Greg that I will be in the auction for Chicago next year and thanks to Rocky for letting me sit in to see how it worked.

We had no issues with the money counts. We got one any time we asked for one and it was quick and efficient.

I didn't bother to track money left until the last 40 players were coming up to round out rosters.

I didn't mean to cause a fuss...I thought the auction draft went well in NY...it's very difficult to see the name on the boards and almost near impossible to see any hand written values..I just wanted to see what everyone thought...It's hard enough for the two facilitators to call the auction and do the stickers and keep the draft going..I just ask King of Queens to be in the auction draft in 2006 for NY he keeps an accurate count on his pc..lol...

Hey Diesel, I wasn't aware you guys were having a money count issue. Nobody mentioned that to me during the auction and I didn't hear it being brought up as a major concern. Our facilitators ran several money counts as the auction progressed and they should have been listing both the auction price and the remaining auction amount on the big board. That is what I thought they had done. My apologies if they did not. But I do know we were running several money counts throughout the auction so that everyone knew how much money they and everyone else in the league had.

Tom, I'm on vacation this week, so I won't be on the boards much, but I just saw this thread....I think Diesel02 DOESN'T want as many money counts....Your guys did a very good job...What Diesel02 was saying was that there is an advantage to people who write down everyone's money...And maybe the fascilitators should only do one or 2 money counts during the draft just to keep things under control...Not my opinion, but I think that's what he was getting at...

Laptop or calculator...either way, they have something quicker and easier then a pencil.
