2. Second Place or "Most Points..." gets $2500
By paying out more to the team with the best record, you are saying that H2H is more important than Total Points, yet you tiebreakers contradict that.
I would think that the principle should be constant all the way thru the process. (something to consider for the future?) Rob, Our internet "thought karma" is strong right now.
It's exactly what I'm saying. It is currently dulpicitous.
Quick example.
League 1 Team A and B end w/ same record. Team A has most points. But Team B beat Team A H2H in regular season.
Team A wins the league because of Total Points.
To me it should be Team B. He has the same record and a victory over the team he tied with.
League 2 Team A 11-2 and Team B 10-3 Team A wins League because of Best Record.
Different methods of determining a League Champ.
Here is a really wild(but not unheard of) one:
Three Teams all w/ the same record.
Team A most points
Team B second Most
Team C less than the others. But a Win over Team A.
Team A and B would be in the playoffs because of Total points. Not H2H
Team C (IMHO) should be joining Team A in the playoffs because they beat team A H2H and should finish 1st.
Team B is out because the don't have as many points as team A. Who finishes second.
Just trying Tom, to create some thought on why it would be wise to change the League Champ award that is currently based upon record to reflect H2H.
Obviously for next year.......

Let them both go to the big dance, but pay the point leader the dough. Totally completely agree. But right now it is a cocktail mix of each. Which is all I am pointing out.

What happened between team B and team C? Did team B beat team A also? You didn't cover all the options. The only way team C could have an arguement is they beat both Team A and team B.

If the team with the best record ALSO has the most points, they should get the 5K. However, if the points champ and H2H champ are two different teams, give them each $2500 and let them "battle it out" for the final $2500 during Weeks 14-16.
A nice compromise that everyone can live with.

Or Team B could have beaten C-Then B would be the 2nd team in.
You're followin. CC. There are a number of things that happen. Like it becomes unbreakable because of each team beating the next.
A most points
B Beat A
C Beat B
Then you go to points. As the second tie breaker.

A nice compromise that everyone can live with. I'm not against that and I've already talked with STATS to allow teams to set separate lineups for the playoffs and for these h2h league matchups during the final three weeks of the season (just in case different lineups were needed). They can do that. It's a proposal worth considering for 2006.
As for the tiebreaker, last year I believe 11 of the 16 leagues ended in ties. We had one league with five teams tied with best records and a couple with three team ties. I expected close leagues and felt that total points was the most logical tie-breaker for the league title and I still feel that way. I understand Lou's reasoning for seeking h2h matchups as the first tie-breaker and it's logical.
We'll see how the final league numbers play out this year and then I'll make a decision about a possible three-week league playoff for the final $2,500 if the league h2h and total points leaders are split. I'm not as opposed to that this year as I was last year.

A nice compromise that everyone can live with. I like this idea too, but the head to head thing is not practical. For real sports, YES, but for fantasy, NO!
In the 13 weeks we go against each other, 8 of the 13 have bye weeks. If team A in Week 8 has th following players (E.James, C.Martin, R.Wayne, M.Vick) then he is in A LOT of trouble for this week. Is it fair that because he loses this week to team B (who for the sake of argument had NO ONE on a bye) that he be penalized? Absolutely not!!!
If we played each team twice, then that is a different story, but as long as we don't and it is possible that a team would not be at full strength, then head to head as a tiebreaker is a horrible idea!
Total points IS most indicative of the best team, but I understand that head to head brings the "intimacy" of going "one on one" each week. That all being said, if someone can have best record AND most points they CLEARLY should win the 5K, and no playoff should be needed, but the 3 week playoff is a GREAT idea!
