Greg - Roster sizes?
John Dullaghan of Middletown, New York becomes our 156th owner from 2004 to return in 2005 as he has grabbed the final spot in our seventh full league in New York. John led his Jets Diehard team to a 5-8 record in New York League 1 last year, finishing with 1,479.15 points during the regular season and 407.34 points during the Consolation Round. John is ready big-time for this year's event and can't wait for Draft Day to come around. Thanks again John for your trust and support and good luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.
This was pretty late in the sign ups. I would say 160-170 back from the 224 last year.
Gerald, I think your format is close to the draft champions. I really don't enjoy it. It is good practice before the main event. You run this format at home right. How tight is the standings from year to year?

gerard I would agree with this thought.
That's why I suggested 6-team playoff for each league $5k prize recently. Keep the $100k requirements exactly the same.

cc to tell you the true in my league the last week of the regular season we had only 3 teams that could not make the playoffs. draft champion has no fa pool but lets forget about the no starting line up i talked about before. we need to keep the not so good players interested for as long as possible during the season so we don't loose them next year. we need to find a way to stop teams from giving up and not starting a real line up after week 7. this is going on right now in our league with the team "she hates me" (chicago league 4) this player has not done anything to his line up in weeks. tell me what you think about the # of spot we should play each week and # of teams in a league and # of rounds we draft.
UFS tell me a little bit about the 6-team playoff don't anything about it thanks.

I like the 14 team format. I think 18 roster spots are the right amount. If we had more players say 20, as UFS said they would be filled with kickers and defenses. Those other two spots would most likely turned into WR and RB after the D's and K's cleared the bye weeks.
Maybe, if we did an all play schedule, it would be better. If you could get 13 points in the H2H in a week, it might keep a few more teams interested. I'm not sure the results would be much different.
Football is such a sprint. No matter what you do it is going to be tough to keep everyone interested the whole way. In this format, after week 10 in most leagues there is probably only 3 or 4 teams alive to win the H2H now and most likely less than that. In the point side, second place is still in reach if you are within 100 points, but you need to put up a big number to have a shot.
This event will grow from year to year. There are too many people who in enjoy football. It is a great event and well run. It's kind of like a suicide pool at home. The first year I got in there were 350 entries, then 500, 650, 880, and then 1000. At a $110 an entry they were coming out of the woodwork to win $50,000. It has since been broken up. It got too big for the guy to run. We started a spin-off two year ago with 150. This year, we had 220. I think of it as in Field of Dreams...if you built it they will come!!! And sooner or later they will leave the dark side....and cross over!!!

gerard I am not opposed to changing payouts to keep teams interested. One option is to pay a "bonus" to the team that misses the playoffs but has the highest total score in weeks 10-13. This permits an owner that has a team blow apart early to continue to make free agent moves with the hope of performing well during the last few weeks. It is not a panacea but it does give some incentive to continue to compete. O/w it is the nature of competition. Some people "take my ball and go home" if they can't win. That is a part of human nature and some people are poor losers just as some are poor winners.

Strongly agree with 12 team leagues and reduced roster size. The ole waiver wire and how $ are spent has the same effect on me as playing in a good Hold'em game. Only problem : the season is shorter and means to prolong it for those who don't finish in the top four need to be explored.

I'm surprised at those wishing for 12 team leagues... every other national league out there is 12 teams.
Fourteen team leagues require more skill and discipline. Our 14 team league structure remains one of the real draws of the NFFC for me; it offers the greatest challenge for those who believe they're the best.
The 18 man roster is additionally more difficult, as owners are forced to make tough choices during the season... it can be frustrating, but then nothing worth having in life comes easy.
I like both the 14 teams and the 18 man roster.

I agree strongly with hammer and others that the present format - 14 team leagues and 18 man rosters should be maintained.

Although Team Diesel split up (Mojo Rising and Bagglers) we did participate in the Auction and DraftMasters along with some satelittes online in 2005. We did not join the Main Event in 2005...it had nothing to do with being out of it. Some personal issues were the reason. We hope to be joining the main event in 2006.
I just wanted to know why everyone feels the need to change the current NFFC format? I think tweeking it is good but changing the major rules isn't a good idea. There are other leagues/sites out there if your not happy with the current format. The 14 team league is here to stay as Greg and Tom feel that this point is the NFFC's draw.
I feel the current size of the rosters are good too because it has enough owners FA bidding and still allows owners to hold onto to their backups or sleeper.
The war seems to be waging on draft slotting..it's fun to watch everyone post their views...the bidding on the slots is interesting but I personally feel it will hurt some owners and benefit other owners come time for the weekly free agent bidding.I think the owners who are patient and take the wait and see approach will do better than those who spend their FA budget on the slot. But who knows ?
The season never turns out quite the way everyone expects.Owners knowledge, injuries and mojo on a player are what makes or breaks a season not draft position.
Does it make an owner have a better chance if they are in the top three picks..if I remember in 2004 that wasn't the case..I don't know what the current stats are for this season are...if someone could post the info I think it would be interesting to see.
Anyhow if you aren't happy with the random selection , bidding on draft slots or kentucky derby style. We sure could use some more owners for the NFFC Auction but then noone could complain that they didn't get the player they wanted because of draft slot.
By the way I think creating an out of it prize for weeks 10-13 might be a good idea being that head to head is an integral part of the system There's nothing worse than having a dead team giving up free wins, when another team is still in the hunt.

I appreciate the fact that Greg and Tom are so open to everyone's ideas of what would make fantasy football better. The idea of the draft selection change is a good thought. But I truly feel the roster size from top to bottom is perfect and shouldn't be touched. My home league is going on it's 15th season. It used to be the one time all of the boys get together and drink and talk football. It's turned into a meeting where everyone has their own idea of how the starting lineup should be and which rules should be changed, and how many teams should be allowed to play each year, AND whether or not there should be a flex player, AND should there be a defense or defensive individual players. And when we're done arguing about that, we draft, and spend the rest of the year talking about how things should change the following year.
I like the NFFC because the rules were set and there was no if's and's or but's. I know it's best for each league to adapt a little to keep up with the fantasy industry, but for the most part, this league has the ideal roster size. And the 14 team leagues are awesome. And if it didn't change anything at all next year, I wouldn't mind a bit.
