DraftChampions w/free agents?
Greg/Tom,
Next year, I would be willing to do a DraftChampions satellite with free agent pickups...It's a different twist to the normal format. It's a little more work, but I think it would give the event the spark it needs to kick it up a notch. This very little bit of extra work would give players in each league more to talk about on their messageboards, and more to look forward to. Would it be possible to do this is I fill it up in '07?

Anything is possible, as long as we work with STATS on the rules beforehand. Bring it up at season's end and we'll discuss.

The whole idea behind the DC format is to WIN from your draft. Adding in FA pickups makes it a normal league doesn't it?
How about drafting 24 players on draft day and having two "Expansion Draft" opportunities during the season. After week 3 there would be a two round live draft using the "worst to first rule" without a snake. Another one of these periods would take place after week 8? That would bring the rosters to 28. Note: You would only be adding to rosters during these two periods and not dropping to pick up.
I might also consider adding one "IR" move for each team during the season. You would have to pick your spot and time to use this exemption because you will only get one. The rules would have to be clearly defined and I am only scratching the surface here and know that this could open a can of worms. This would be optional and also have a fixed cost associated with it.
Example: Week One of the NFL season you lose anyone to their teams IR as officially listed by the NFL. You could choose to exercise your one (1) IR move at this time. Each week every team eligible to do so will state their intent to make an IR move (deadline would be Tuesday 6pm eastern). They would list their choices in order of preference and using the worst to first rule would get to make their move. Players lists would be due by Friday at 6pm eastern, at which time they would become final and players awarded. It sounds complex but it isn't.
Notes: If you express an interest in using your IR move, you must follow through with it. You could not test the waters to see if other owners are going to use theirs. Odds are that you could be the only owner exercising your IR move and may have your pick of the litter that week.
I would charge for the right to exercise the "IR Option" and all monies collected could go to ........ charity or maybe an overall DC Champ? I would charge $20 for the IR Option.
Just a thought or two,

Ted, 1st, I am up for any kind of slight change in the draftchampions' format. Just a tweak. Not a major change. A supplement draft would be fine with me. Just something to give it a small spark after a few weeks have gone by and you have a blank spot or 2 on your roster. The leagues die out, as well as the messageboards, so a slightly different twist may bring more attention to this format.
2nd, I hope your cracked head is okay.

LMAO ... Marc ... we discussed this a number of times last year
Your like a "dog with a bone" on this subject
OK ... Maybe we could draft 24 guys before the season starts and draft the last 2 rounds after week 3! This would breath a little life into the contest and if we draft the last two rounds in reverse order ... it would give a little something something to the guy who got stuck with the 14th pick. So round 25 would start with 14 instead of 1 and round 26 would start with 1 instead of 14.
What do you think?

UYT, a 2 round draft is like going to a bar and asking for a dixie cup of beer. It's not going to quench your thirst.
How about a 6 round draft? 20 Round initial draft, which is 2 more than your normal NFFC draft, and then a 6 round supplemental draft after week 3 or 4...?

How about this...
Keeping it both simple and fun.
26 rounds like the Super Satellite.
$1000.00 free agent money.
All players dropped are removed from the player pool.
Optimum lineups like usual.

Sports ... I don't like the FA. It's and interesting format ... but the whole point of a DC is really to avoid having to be involved with the team past the draft (or two drafts).
Maybe your format would be good for a regular 18 player league with FA ... but optimum linups like the DC after the games are played? That would be fun ... as your team makeup would be critical. I would be up for that too.

Marc Those are called regular leagues Marc
Again the whole point of the Draft Champion leagues - as the name suggests - is to reward the champion of the draft
It also allows many of us who have too many teams to do these drafts and enjoy the draft and competition and then just follow so we don't have three or four more leagues to have to do FA bids, roster management and lineups each week.
If that is not enough "action" for you - just do more regular leagues or weekly lineup contests, but don't keep trying to mess up these leagues for the rest of us.

[/QUOTE]If you don't like, don't join. Why ridicule because Marc wants to add a lil twist to the DC format?? How is this ruining anything if he finds 13 other owners who want to join under this format?? I agree the FA pickups should be limited to only a few times throughout the season, but would never put him down for trying something new.
BTW, "Hey, WHY have a league with teams from Vegas, N.Y. and Chicago, we already have one, it's called the main event."
