Compensating the regular season total points and/or best record seems the most fair to me.

I know you think I am saying this because of my position, but I was a HUGE advocate of this when Greg and Tom decided to implemement the added prize money to the regular season best record and most points in the auction LAST year.

When you "do well" or dominant for 80%+ of the season, and you run into a "monster" ONE week and lose, it shouldn't be "all for nothing".

Just my opinion.

I know what the rules are for this year, I am just advocating for next year in the Snake Classic. :D

Personally, I believe the best team is dictated as such by the scoring format. I also believe you can tailor a team to the scoring format.

Take your run-of-the-mail standard fantasy league. You have 12 teams playing 13 or 14 weeks, H2H records determine which 4 or 6 teams makes the playoffs then you have a 2 or 3 week tourney, single elimination.

My objective in this type of league is to
A. Make the playoffs
B. Have the best (or hottest) team during the playoffs.

NOTE: Leading the league in points is NOT an objective.

There are ways to strategize that cost one points during the season, but yield a better team come playoff time. Perhaps you sit on a guy that FINALLY breaks through week 10. With the wacky byes, you probably could have used that spot to make your team stronger during the season, but your spidey sense said don't worry, you'll win your matchup anyway, and have a great RB2 come playoff time. Perhaps you do some research and draft with playoff week matchups in mind. You may take a guy ranked slightly lower, costing you some in-season points, but man, does he have a rocking playoff schedule.

Sure, there is luck involved with the scheduling -- anyone who is following LV2 knows I am the poster boy for H2H luck this season, somehow being heads up with Jules record-wise after 10 weeks. But there is also luck involved with not having injuries, or having your WR4 or WR become a WR2 or WR3 because of an injury to his teammate, elevating his role.

The NFFC is interesting as it is a hybrid between points and H2H, though it leans much more towards points. You can lay in the weeds and sneak into your local league's playoff as the 6th seed with a 7-6 record, but that gets you a place in the consolation bowl in the NFFC.
"No one cares about your team but you."
