In seeded sports events - think tennis - if you beat a higher seed, you take over that seed.

So in the first round of the auction playoffs I was the 6 seed and beat the #3 seed - going forward, I should be the #3 seed and this week will play the #2 seed (which is in fact the way it is set up)

So you're saying if Joe Blow beats Federer, he is now the #1 seed?? No, he just advances in the bracket, the seed doesn't change.
Same with b-ball, George Mason, the 11th seed knocked off North Carolina, the #3 seed, they remained the 11th seed after and throughout the entire tournament. I am beyond confused as to how a seed can change in a tournament.

1) Tennis isn't really a sport.

2) In seeded sports events - think basketball - if #16 seed Montana beats Duke do they become the #1 seed? Hell No!

3) You don't "take over" the seed. You may move through the bracket the same way the seed would have, but you keep your original seed.

4) In a traditional bracket the winner of the #3 vs. #6 would play the #2, but it is not how the rules are written. I am fine with this arrangement, but I just want Greg or Tom to say this is the law of the land.

5) Again, I could care less which team I actually play, but the thought of anyone (especially me) going to bed Monday night a winner and logging on to the site on Tuesday a loser makes me want to hurl.

BigMo and GLY - "taking the spot in the bracket" is in fact assuming the #1 seed for that event.

To use the Montana/Duke example above, if #16 Montana beat Duke who was the #1 seed, who would they play the next round? It would be the #8 seed (or whomever now had that spot in the tournament)

GREG- please clarify for everyone! Captain, in the NCAA hoops, Montana is and would always be known as the #16 seed. In the next round they would say verbally and show on TV, "#16 vs #8". Same is true in the NBA.

I have never heard of anyone ever refer to your analogy here. It's the same difference, but the way you refer to it is odd. lol.

I've never seen a FF league bracket playoffs. That would be very odd to me.

John - please that is silly - the NCAA is a bracketed event - the #16 can't play the #8 seed - the original #16 who has "taken over" the #1 seed will play the #8 - at that point there is no number higher than 8 left in the tournament as there are only eight teams.

Maybe you just haven't played in FF events where the playoff teams earned a certain seed # - although that would seem a lot odder to me. YOU should have seen everything by now.

As per the rules, the #1 seed plays the lowest-remaining seed (in this case, the #6 seed). If the rules stated that the #1 seed plays the winner of the #4/#5 game, then your point would be correct.
