Auction mag league II

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon May 05, 2008 12:36 pm

That was a lot of fun today. Some technical issues as usual but to get an auction done in three hours online is pretty incredible. Well done everyone. :D

Here's my roster. I like this team a helluva lot more than the one I got in this league last year. My WRs are a lot stronger. I was shocked at some of the values for the RBs. Earnest Graham went for $19 and that is flat out sick. Had I had any inkling so many good RBs were going to go for such bargain prices I would have laid off Ryan Grant early. Should be a fun league. When does the season start? Next week? :D

QB-Donovan McNabb $15
QB-Jeff Garcia $3

RB-Ryan Grant $50
RB-Reggie Bush $39
RB-Felix Jones $11
RB-Kenny Watson $3
RB-Maurice Morris $1
RB-Brandon Jackson $1

WR-Anquan Boldin $33
WR-Lee Evans $17
WR-Jerricho Cotchery $14
WR-James Jones $2
WR-Justin Gage $1
WR-Devin Hester $1

TE-Owen Daniels $6
TE-John Carlson $1
K-Josh Scobee $1
D-Indianapolis $1

I don't mind my QBs. My RBs core is weak. My WRs are the best in the league. Can they carry my team? Wow Rob, I think you'll fare pretty well if the Raaaaadas can do anything this year.

Back on the Travis Henry train, eh? :D

TK, 1 that is very interesting to me is Lee Evans.

I could see Evans bouncing back to a very strong season with Hardy to draw away some of the attention.

I was eaten up by spending too fast on my receiving core, and I am now sure that Brady will sell at record prices in EVERY auction. Here's my starting lineup so far, with a terrible RB core.

QB-T.Brady
RB-Lendale White
RB-Ladell Betts
WR-Steve Smith
WR-Santana Moss
WR-Greg Jennings
TE-J. Witten
FLEX-T.Gonzalez
K-K. Brown
Def-New England

I bought a bunch of question marks at RB to try and fill the void. We'll see how that goes. I also have D.J. Hackett to fill in at WR, if I need. I have no idea how this team will end up scoring.

Marc, I think you need a LOT of things to break your way for this team to be competitive. Not knowing the other teams to this point...

For a preview of my team, check out the recent NFL draft ;) .

A quick glance at the rosters, no ones team really stands out IMO.

I will say, I don't see Greg dominating like he did last season.

My WRs are the best in the league. They just may be, Roberto...but mine could give you a run for their money!

I went nutty and broke fairly fast...but that was the game plan today.

Here's how my starters could pan out...

QB: Marc Bulger STL (With the return of a healthy Orlando Pace and Steven Jackson, and a youth infusement at WR in Donnie Avery (first WR drafted in 2008)...I look for a bounce back season.)

RB: Laurence Maroney NE (Gotta love the "now firmly entrenched" RB of the Superbowl runner up New England Patriots! Earning his playing time in 2007 resulted in him also earning Goal Line carries...sweeeeeet.)

RB: Willie Parker PIT (Value dropped after only 2 TD's in 2007 and with the addition of a possible RBBC with rookie Mendenhall...but his selection makes two "former NFFC first rounders" from 2007 for my squad, with nice workloads to come regardless of any splits to keep them fresh.)

WR: Braylon Edwards CLE (He's the best WR in football IMO. 16 TD's to go with plenty of receptions and yards. He's a 25 year old STUD who should compete for best WR in football for the next decade.)

WR: Torry Holt STL (Nice one-two punch with my QB Bulger. Holt "ho-hummed" his way to another solid season, despite the injury riddled Rams that had one of those "write-off" years. Another 93 rec and better yards and TD numbers are in store for 2008.)

WR: Chad Johnson CIN  (Another solid season of 93, 1400, 8TD for funny man turned bad boy Chad. He will put up "Chad" numbers wherever he plays in 2008. Get him smiling, and he'll challenge for best WR once more.)

TE: Kellen Winslow CLE (Best TE in football IMO. Value rises with the questionable status of Gates. He plays through injury, and still has upside, but I'd be happy with a repeat performance of his 82 rec, 1100 yard season.)

Flex: Mark Bradley CHI (My bet to be the Bears best WR in 2008. Finally healthy, and with little competition to start, he was my "sleeper steal" late in this draft.)

K: Nate Kaeding SD (Tough kid earned my respect by playing late last season on a bum wheel (fractured lower plant leg)...unlike no-toughness LT. He only missed 3 kicks all of last year.)

DEF: Cleveland Browns (I find Joshua Cribbs more exciting to watch return kicks than anyone in the NFL (including Hester and "make it rain" :D ). Cleveland is a team with a plan, going 10-6 in 2007 (7-1 at home)...The DAWG POUND DEF are poised to shock in 2008.)

All I can say is....don't let me make the playoffs. I'm sure my starters have the best matchups in weeks 14-16 overall.

QB Brees
RB Lynch
RB T.Jones
WR Wayne
WR Colston
WR Bennett
TE LJ Smith
FLEX C.Taylor
K Vinatieri
Def Pitt

Bench
RB F. Jackson
RB J.Charles
RB L.Washington
RB S.Slaton
RB R.Williams
WR S.McDonald
TE Z.Miller
QB Grossman

I'll address getting a better backup QB and WR depth via F/A.

I had alot of fun today. It was nice to catch up with some of the guys. A VERY high value was placed on the top 20 WR's.

It was challenging because several owners were willing to pay the big bucks for WR's and fill in the RB slots with whatever value came along.

As usual those who remained patient were rewarded with good deals but I'm not sure more is really more. I prefer to have the star power to carry the team on any given week even if it means sacrificing depth.

Rookies always go for too much when Patrick is drafting ;)

Like Tom said....the RB value (Graham) at times was plain sick.

Thanks to Greg and Tom for doing this league again. This is by far my favorite satellite. :D

I will say, I don't see Greg dominating like he did last season. Nope, I didn't snare any Adrian Peterson's for $17 like last year. Once I got LT2 for $72, my hands were tied. I wish I hadn't done that, but I didn't expect the RBs to go so cheaply and the WRs to go so high. This was an EYE OPENER for all of us, I would say.

I'll have to fight to earn a playoff berth in this league and I wish I had laid back like Billy and Matt B., did. Man, money was king midway through this auction and I was a poor man!!! I went 50 minutes without getting a player there.

I'll post my lineup tomorrow. It's not the prettiest group, but Tom kept pushing me up for all the guys I targeted. Tom will be late for work tomorrow...literally!! ;)
