IMO if I have more points than a 7-6 team when I'm 6-7...I deserve the spot. [/QB]I definitely agree with this!

You should try being open minded and having a positive discussion when it doesn't benefit you.

Long time lurker, once in a while poster...
Of all the topics frequently discussed on these boards, the debate between H2H and points has always intrigued me the most.
I think most of us will agree our local and or private leagues are almost all H2H, but we "don't care" as much about the random factor as the financial stakes are not nearly as steep, at least in most cases.
That said, I honestly believe there is a different strategy that one should employ in a total points format versus a H2H format with single elimination playoffs. With the former, it is pretty obvious, you want the most points. With the latter, you want to
a. make the playoffs
b. have the best team during the playoffs
The strategies involved here are not necessarily the same. The differing strategies can be a topic for another thread, but at least in my way of thinking, I approach a total points format differently than a H2H/single elimination playoff format.
My point for this thread is where you can get in trouble from an administrative angle is setting up a hybrid format, which in essence is what the NFFC is in general, though the 10% rule basically turns the Main Event into a points competition disguised a little as H2H. But the auctions and even satellites do not have that 10% parachute.
It comes down to how those governing the competition want the money-winners to be determined.
Most overall points?
Combination of most consistent team that is best stocked for a playoff run at the end of the season?
An argument can be made both ways. It is really tough to keep both sides of the argument happy.
I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

I'll hang up and listen to your answer. Dr. Mr. Long Time Lurker: You answered your own question with this final statement: It is really tough to keep both sides of the argument happy.
You can NEVER keep everyone happy with the qualifying formats. All Play is not the answer. If you want that, then just have a points league. An all points league is not the answer. Take a look at all of the records in the NFFC Classic and main events and you'll see many 3-3's, 2-4's, 4-2's. The H2H battles keeps everyone in the playoff hunt for the most part as long as possible. The combination we have now seems to reward total points and h2h and through 13 weeks they find a way to balance out, rewarding the top teams eventually.
But I'll hang up and listen to the rest of the callers. Now go back to Lurking!! Oh, and I'll see ya for baseball in two weeks.

back to your last comment, do you disagree with UYT and myself that "If you want H2H to be meaningful ... It needs to stay like it is."
Sour grapes? Maybe from last year but maybe you don't read well...I'm in 3rd...I'm in the playoffs OK. I don't like the format and I explained why. You pissed me off because you explained nothing...just hit and run with your typical "I don't care about your thoughts" one liners.
If you have a point...then make it...and back it up with something. "We have a winner" is a smart a$$ comment that brings NOTTA to the discussion.
Look...if you're being honest you know when you're being a smart a$$...you don't need me to explain it to you.
If you have something valuable to bring to the conversation then by all means do it...if not...then stop adding to the stress of life when it's not necessary.
sounds like you want to pass your "stress" on to others. as for hit and run, i think my initial post summed it up very well (see below). and i agreed with UYT, hence the winner comment. sorry if u are dealing with a lot of stress. i'm seriously not trying to add to it.
"No offense Jeff – But if a team can’t make it into the top 3 teams in points for a specific league, then maybe that team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. In a H2H league setup, having the last two teams based on H2H record keeps more teams involved longer IMO."
