A very slow 2009 draft

Post by kapefear » Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:10 am

I already hade graded John earlier on a PM,but I'll add a few comments..Route c kind of hit my response and attitude to a tee..I love Andre Johnson and I initially thought he drafted Rodger, but later found out he chose "Rivers" of Dreams...I was very high last year on Marshawn, then the driving accident before camp kind of leaning towards a new direction..I'really think the emergence of "FEARLESS Fred Jackson" can also take away from Lynch..Finally I personally dont like Ronnie Brown and the wildcat offense..I know Miami is work in progress I just dont want to be a part of that backfield....Anyways Johnny nothing but love for ya.... :D

I will jump into the fray later today. I just have had not time the last two days. Nicely done so far.

I can't wait to see Tom/Greg address the first bundle of picks.

O.K. JOHN I'LL CHIME IN WITH MY ANALYSIS.

ANDRE JOHNSON: THIS GUY IS A MONSTER. HIS TD NUMBERS HAVE IMPROVED. NO MATTER IF SCHAUB AND ROSENFELDS IS THE Q.B. HIS NUMBERS DON'T DROP. NICE FIRST PICK.

MARSHAWN LYNCH: HE IS ONE OF MOST CONSISTIENT AS THEY COME HE JUST LACKS THAT "BUST" OUT GAME ABILITY. HE PROBABLY WONT LAY ANY EGGS BUT HE WILL ALSO NEVER HIT 30PTS IN A WEEK EITHER.

RONNIE BROWN (WILD CARD PICK) IF HE REMAINS IN A 60/40 TIME SHARE WITH RICKY THEN FORGET IT. HIS NUMBERS MAY NOT YIELD HIGH POINTS ON A WEEK TO WEEK BASIS. HOWEVER IS HE CAN CARRY THE LOAD HE WILL BE A GREAT PICK.

PHILIP RIVERS: IF L.T. LIMPS INTO THIS SEASON (HOPEFULLY NOT :D :D ) THEN RIVERS ONCE AGAIN MUST SHOULDER THE LOAD AND PROVED THIS YEAR HE CAN. SO A GOOD QB FOUNDATION THERE.

OVERALL GRADE B.

Route C – Jeff

Pick 1.7: DeAngelo – very good pick. He established that HE IS the man in Carolina no matter who they draft. I would have taken S Jax or Turner before him though.

Pick 2.8: It is hard to dispute that Jennings is the featured/go-to WR in GB and Driver is on his way down. A good #1 after the initial elite WRs are off the board. Solid production is assured.

Pick 3.8: Eddie Royal, as stated in previous posts, could be that WR that delivers you? I may have gone Jones or Grant at RB with that pick.

Pick 4.7: Kevin Smith and LJ were the only two backs I would have chosen over a WR with what was left for you. You resisted the run on QB and only time will tell if Smith will make up for that choice. I like the decision and think it will work out for you.

Good draft so far.

Sorry for the delay but I have been hit with a couple projects that are killing me. It is nice to get to talk a little football.
I'm going to go through my team while I am thinking about it.
I had A.P. at #1 overall so I was happy to get him at 1.2. I want to say though that I had Gore at 2 and was expecting to take him when I saw the draft order. I think Billy got a steal.
At 2.13 I took Welker as a safe pick over Eddie Royal and that was a tough call for me.
3.13 Braylon Edwards is in a contract year and he is presicely the kind of individual that should thrive in that situation.
4.2 Peyton Manning. I never draft a QB this high but Manning is also never available this low. I was still alittle worried that I would be weak at the RB position but with all the other quaterbacks going in the fourth round I may still have someone fall to me.

Ok I will take a turn...

Andre Johnson-very good pick. Definitley the big dog in Houston's offense. And a top 3 fantasy Wr.

Lynch-I actually think this guys has all around skills. But not sure if he will get the chance to showcase them. With fred jackson I would not be surprised if a two-headed monster emerges in Buffalo.

Ronnie Brown-I am a little scared of this guy. A bit too risky for me. Injury concerns. But is definitley a high reward player.

Rivers-Great pick here. Wish I would have got him. I had him rated well above Rodgers.

Rivers and andre johnson will drive this team. If the backs pan out it could be very good.

Raiders – John

Pick 1.8: Andre Johnson, a man among boys on the field. I do have him in my top 3 WRs right now but would I have taken him over S Jax and The Burner? Nope. This choice may hurt you a tad unless your next two picks step up to the plate. Gutsy pick IMO.

Pick 2.7: Lynch – The kid is great but that offense isn’t. Not to mention that Fred could continue to cut into his time. After taking AJ in the first I may have gone for the gold and drafted Tomlinson here.

Pick 3.7: Ronnie Brown was a nice pick here especially after the Lynch selection.

Pick 4.8: The QB run was gaining momentum and of the next 3-5 QBs taken, I like your choice of Rivers. He should take the next step in his progression in 2009.

You have some risk in two of your first 4 picks and that always makes an owner squirm for the next several rounds.

Hammerheads – Dan

Pick 1.2: AP – what can you really say about this pick? Nice start.

Pick 2.13: Welker – money in the bank. Consistent workhorse who has developed into a great #2 fantasy WR but his TD production and potential for TDs would have had me taking one of the others still left.

Pick 3.13: Braylon Edwards – huge upside and worth the shot at this point knowing that Welker was going to produce every week. He had a ton of targets last year with only 55 receptions to go along with 3 tds. I would expect 75/1000/10 making him a nice addition at this point in the draft.

Pick 4.2: Peyton Manning – I really didn’t think he would last that long and if I was in your position I wouldn’t have passed on him with your first 3 in the books. I am not a big fan of taking a QB that early, even in a DC but he is as consistent as you can get. He should be healthy again next year along with Wayne.

I really like your start to this draft.

Hammerheads

AP-Great pick. I had him #1

Welker-He's going to be good again next year.
He and Housh would have been a toss up
here for me.
Edwards-That is what I would have done. Good
bounce back vet here.
Manning-Great value. I had him last year. Should
be good for close to 30tds and 4'000 yds
again.

Honestly this is probably the picks I would have made if I had #2. So it is hard for me to disagree. So I will have to continue the "lovefest" Great start.
