A very slow 2009 draft
HEY DAN I CHIME IN ON YOUR PICKS SO FAR:
ADRIAN PETERSON: NOT MUCH TO SAY. PROBABLY WILL BE NUMBER 1 THIS ON MANY DRAFT BOARDS IN 2009. SAFE PICK BARRING INJURY.
WES WELKER: CONSISTIENT AS THEY COME. IN FACT THERE MAY NOT BE A MORE CONSISTIENT FANTASY PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. VERY NICE SECOND ROUND VALUE.
BRAYLON EDWARDS (WILD CARD PICK): ITS REAL SIMPLE IF YOU GET THE BRAYLON EDWARDS OF 2007 YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING THIS LEAGUE IS EXTREMELY HIGH. IF YOU GET THE ONE FROM 2008 THEN THERE WILL BE ALOT OF WORK TO MAKE UP.
PEYTON MANNING: GREAT VALUE WHERE YOU GOT HIM AT. ALWAYS A NICE ACE IN THE HOLE TO HAVE.
OVERALL GRADE B+/A- DEPENDING ON EDWARDS IT COULD BE A FLAT OUT A. NICE JOB THUS FAR DAN.

A very slow 2009 draft
Like Hammerheads this has been a rough week and it will be nice to take a breath and get in a little football talk.
I'll start with my buddy RC's team....
1st- RB DEANGELO WILLIAMS I think this was definitely the best player available, and it was a tough choice between him and Gore for me. Gore won out because he isn't sharing time. Some may say neither is D-Will, but they didn't draft J-Stew in the 1st round to hold a clipboard. Can't possibly see upside with DeAngelo, but he should put up solid 1st round numbers.
2nd- WR GREG JENNINGS Glad I took Gore, because Steve Smith wouldn't have slipped in my lap had I let Jeff get him. I was never a fan of Jennings until last year. He is a great WR, with a good young QB. Is a great possession receiver as well as a deep threat. Nice pick.
3rd- WR EDDIE ROYAL This is a guy I would of liked to have on my team. In a good offense and catching 90 balls in your rookie year is quite a feat. Nice compliment to Jennings.
4th- RB KEVIN SMITH This is where I think Jeff slipped up. Although K.Smith is a nice RB, there will be other guys available in round 5, who will be comparable, but the QB he passed on to the first one he takes is a big gap IMO. I think not getting a QB was a mistake, but only time will tell. Jeff keeps talking about Kerry Collins being the next Kurt Warner so maybe he knows something we don't????
Overall grade- B- I love the first 3 picks, but not liking the K.Smith pick.

Evaluation of Raiders squad....
1st- WR ANDRE JOHNSON I personally would have went with Steven Jackson, but it is hard to argue with this pick. AJ is a flat out beast who if healthy can carry an entire fantasy team on his back.
2nd- RB MARSHAWN LYNCH I loved him his rookie season, and other than the MNF against Cleveland was not impressed. His offense really holds him back, and the time share with Fred Jackson makes this a difficult pick IMO. That being said, taking AJ almost forced a RB pick.
3rd- RB RONNIE BROWN Ronnie is good, but he shares too much time with Ricky and disappears too much for my taste. I definitely take Thomas Jones over him.
4th- QB PHILLIP RIVERS I prefer Rodgers (because he can run), but they are pretty much neck and neck and Rivers generally outperforms my expectations.
Overall grade- D+ Would love to have AJ, but the other 3 could have some very pedestrian weeks, which against this crew could be suicide. Hope you don't take it personally John, but I see your team in the bottom 4, but it is VERY early.

Evaluation of Hammerheads squad....
1st- RB ADRIAN PETERSON When the consensus #1 pick in August/Sept falls to #2, how can you pass? You can't.... and keep in mind, he is actually BETTER in a DC!
2nd- WR WES WELKER Just flat out produces. Sure, you would like more TD's, but there aren't many guys out there with a consistent QB who are almost a lock for 100 catches.
3rd- WR BRAYLON EDWARDS I would have taken Antonio Bryant (went next pick), but we have seen what he is capable of. He is a top 5 talent. His head is a 5 too.....cents that is!
4th- QB PEYTON MANNING When Manning falls to the 4th you don't even consider who is there IMO. 30 TD's and 4,000 yds EVERY year....QB or not, I don't care....sign me up!
Overall Grade- B+/A- Like Sabretooth said, a lot depends on Edwards. Welker is steady, but the other 3 have LOTS of upside!

I gave myself a (C) but D+ it is.
When I picked A.Johnson, it was going to have to be a team that was full of reaches. Of course these drafts could be lost in the first four rounds and not won. I have alot of ground to make up and will have to hit gold with at least 3 of the next 6 picks. Wr's to me are no problem. Like B.Edwards in 2007 and R.White in 2008 I feel I can do that again.
Thanks for all the feed back,
John

Dan/Hammerheads
A.P. - Top back and I had as #1 overall.
Welker - A catching machine.
Braylon Edwards- Great pick, huge value.
Peyton Manning- You already know what I think about this pick.
Grade A, if not the best team top 3. But I have this team as the team to beat.
Great Job,
John

Billy,
Forgot 'I definitely take Thomas Jones over him.'
What's the bet?
R.Brown vs. Thomas Jones. Total points thru 16 week? Of course I get Brown.

I am trying to catch up.
Route C
I like this team more then some of you do.
D. Williams will have another good season as long as that Oline stays together and healthy.
Gennings is the favorite target on a pass heavy team.
I almost took Royal instead of Welker at 2.13. He is going to be playing the same postion in the same type offense as Welker but he is a better athlete.
If Detroit doesn't add a back Kevin Smith will be a solid RB2.

Raiders
I think your first 3 picks were OK but I would have taken Steve Smith in the second round. Ronnie Brown will have better stats in 09. Parcells will improve the Oline and Brown will be completely healthy. He looked quicker in the second half of last season.
I am not a fan of taking a QB this high. Only having 1 of the top 20 receivers could bite you.
