A very slow 2009 draft

Post by Coltsfan » Tue Feb 10, 2009 12:39 am

John,

Here are my starting WR's from the June 26th DC last year. My team finished with about 2600 points and 260 points ahead of the 3rd place team.

Chris Chambers
Laverneous Coles
Hines Ward
Patrick Crayton
Ted Ginn
Ike Hilliard
Amani Toomer
Reggie Williams
Terry Glenn

This team put up 160 points more than the team that won the Chicago 650 DC.

Hey Guys,

We have 2 spots left open for the auction DC. Your total time committment is to nominate one player per week and then place bids on any players you want at some point during the week. Auctions end on Sunday evening at 8 central so if you want to log in and do the plus 1 bids you can. Anybody interested?

Wayne Wayne,

I said in 'This League'. :D So you need to hit on WR's and Jeff needs to find last year's Warner.
I need a new team. :D The draft as you know will be won from rounds 12-26. I like your start way better than mine, it's not close. I think my team had the worst start.

John

I'll take a shot at waynes team..

Steven jackson-Great pick. I can't argue with it.I think he can be a top 5 back easy.

Barber-This probably gives you the best set of Rb's in the league.Although I may have went with Steve Smith.

Gates-This surprised me a bit.Good value. I don't remember who was on the board but I would went wr here for sure.

Romo-I like romo at this point. You are already going to be lacking at wr so you might as well try and make up for it somewhere else.

This looks a lot like my team in our Chicago league last yr. Remember manning,addai.j.lewis,lyndale white, cooley and lacking at wr? it didn't turn out so well for me.
Not a typical coltsfan team but you already knew that. I am sure you will try to make it work with some emerging wrs in the next few rds. We'll see.

OK Wayne, here is my take....

1st- RB STEVEN JACKSON - LOVE this pick, as if Gore and DeAngelo would of been off the board (instead of Fitz and Westy) I would have had to seriously consider him. Just needs to stay healthy.

2nd- RB MARION BARBER - Another great RB, to give you what I feel is the best tandem in the league.

3rd- WR ANTONIO GATES - Was shocked you took him, but in general I don't have a problem with this pick. Should easily be a top 3 TE, and I don't think it would shocl anyone if he ended up #1.

4th- QB TONY ROMO - This is the only pick of yours I don't really like. If Owens is gone, keeps regressing (dropping balls), then I think he might struggle. I have never been a Roy Williams fan. I would have taken Aaron Rodgers, but Romo certainly isn't a reach.

OVERALL GRADE- A- -I like this team A LOT so far IF S-Jax stays healthy. Seeing that he hasn't the last two years, this team would quickly drop to the C+ range (who wouldn't if there top pick went down?) I know everyone is pigeon-holing Wayne for a WR in round 5, but I have him going a different direction.

Time will tell! ;)

With Brett retiring how much does that hurt T.Jones? 2007 without Brett 1TD, with Brett 13 TD's.

John The offensive line is what gave T.Jones his burst.

Favre was an absolute disaster in MANY games this year. T.Jones will continue to be the bell cow.

HEY WAYNE I'LL CHIME IN ON YOUR TEAM:

STEVEN JACKSON: THIS GUY IS A HORSE. GREAT FIRST ROUND PICK. I STARTED TO TAKE HIM MYSELF. BARRING INJURY HE HAS THE ABILITY TO BE THE HIGHEST SCORING FANTASY RB.

MARION BARBER: NICE COMPLIMENT TO JACKSON. A SCORING MACHINE. JONES WILL BE BACK AND CHOICE PLAYED WELL DOWN THE STRETCH BUT HE STILL SHOULD BE A GREAT FANTASY SCORER.

ANTONIO GATES (WILD CARD PICK): DOES THIS GUY STILL HAVE IT LEFT IN THE TANK TO BE A TOP 3 T.E.?
IF SO THEN WITH THE RB FOUNATION HE WILL BE A NICE COMPLIMENT IF NOT THEN YOUR RB'S ARE GOING TO HAVE TO CARRY MUCH MORE WEIGHT.

TONY ROMO: NICE PICK HERE. WHEN HEALTHY HE PUT UP GOOD NUMBERS AND I DON'T SEE THAT CHANGING TOO MUCH.

OVERALL GRADE B WITH ROOM TO GROW IF YOU CATCH THE RIGHT PLAYERS LATE. SO IF YOU HIT THOSE PLAYERS IT CAN EASILY BE AN A-.

NICE START WAYNE SHOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW YOU FINISH UP.

Farve's retirement may help Jones. The Jets are going to have to address the QB position, making it more likely the RB position will remain unchanged.

It was nice hanging out with Wayne earlier this week. We discussed his team and this was my take:

1)SJax......it was either him or Turner and SJax has been great at times without the supporting cast. How long can the Rams be bad? I'd sure like to be the guy with SJax when they figure it out.

2)M.Barber....an OK choice but I would've taken S.Smith just because of the way the "boys" used F.Jones and Choice last year. the way the NFL has been going with multiple RB's lately I would've played it safer with this pick. The flip side is Barber could be top 5 when all is said and done.

3)Gates....not a big fan of early TE's or QB's in a DC but Gates is a big talent.

4)Romo.....Not a Romo fan this year. If I'm taking a QB this early it's gotta be Rogers.

Overall.....I can't be too hard on anyone at this point. I also can't award a trophy at this point. This team can be strong if he fills it in but so can everyone elses.
