Priest Holmes...Again

Post by Diesel » Sun Nov 06, 2005 4:01 am

News: The Star reports Priest Holmes visited a noted spine specialist this weekend.Apparently, a concussion is not his his lone health problem. The aftereffects of an injured shoulder are also effecting the veteran back.

Analysis: Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said that Holmes' season isn't over, but it appears he could be lost for more than one week. Fantasy owners who have Holmes need to follow this situation.

Priest may never play again....

Chiefs running back Priest Holmes may be on the verge of retirement due to a lump on his spinal cord that could lead to paralysis if he continues to play. KSHB NBC TV in Kansas City is reporting that Holmes has "very possibly" played his final game in a Chiefs uniform and could announce his retirement from the NFL as soon as Thursday. The team has not confirmed the local report, and as of Tuesday, head coach Dick Vermeil claimed he was uncertain about Holmes' status.

News: Holmes will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign after being placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. The veteran running back continues to recover after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit in the Chiefs' loss to the San Diego Chargers on October 30. He's already sought several opinions on the head and shoulder injuries he sustained as a result of the crushing blow. Larry Johnson will take over as the team's primary tailback going forward.
Analysis: Reports earlier this week claimed Holmes would be forced to retire, but the Chiefs have disputed the rumors, saying the injuries are not career-threatening. In seven games this season, Holmes has picked up 451 yards and scored six touchdowns on 119 carries, while also hauling in 21 passes for 197 yards and a score. The Chiefs have been working out running backs this week and will fill the void on the roster shortly.
