Raiders- I believe the Abandoned teams you refer to are the ones that CDM has refunded a customer like Semper Fi/Gary O. who had something go wrong. Those problems are inter-related and due to the growing pains of starting the contest from scratch under time constraints. They have made it right with customers like Gary O. and will now sell the teams to people interested. Those teams were owned/bought ...just CDM has opted to take care of some customers who have a legitimate complaint by refunding them. Probably the right call in certain circumstances.

I think you are overstating that just a bit. More luck than normal, sure. But not 100%. I'm quite certain I have a better shot of winning the million than say, my mom would. ...hehehe

Many sources of luck snake, the luck of having one horribly bad team in a league will be overcome by many other luck factors. Injuries, injuries, injuries, for example ... along with skill factors in drafting, FAAB and lineup management.
It's a different type of game, but its no lottery. WSOP would be a lot closer comparison than a lottery.

I guess what snake is trying to say ... is this contest doesn't seem to try to keep everyone on an even playing field. If they ran the NFFC main event this way ... we would scream bloody murder. Yet this event is supposed to be for MORE money? I also don't buy the excuse that it's only for $125 ... an even playing field is an even playing field. With that said ... it could be YOU! that is in a league with 3 auto draft teams and 2 people that don't pay. That's what he means by a lot more luck involved ( I think?)

UPDATE
FFOC has announced the contest is a go with the 1 Million already placed in escrow. It appears they have trimed some of the 2nd through 15th OA prizes (But they are still significant) but are keeping the 1st place prizes of each bracket the same. It appears they are willing to take the loss for the good will and publicity that will come in the future.

"THE CONTEST IS HAPPENING! THE GAME IS ON! SEE YOU IN VEGAS!
Poised To Stomp Sports, owners of the Fantasy Football Open Championship (FFOC), re-confirmed today that someone will become a millionaire this year playing the Fantasy Football Open Championship. The FFOC has re-confirmed that the Million Dollar Grand Prize is guaranteed, and the $1,000,000 is placed in escrow and it will be awarded and presented by Jerry Rice in Las Vegas on December 22, 2008 to the Fantasy Football Open Champion.
“We are thrilled that the inaugural season has created the most exciting event in fantasy football history ever, and we look forward to doing this for many years to come,” said Stan Misthios, founder of the FFOC. “We have had great participation and we are honored that thousands of fantasy football players have already chosen to play in our event.”
Moving forward, however, adjustments have been made to the prize structure. Click here to view the revised prizes: http://www.ffoc.com/rules/prizes.php
“We still have 10 days to register many more players and to conduct many more by the September 4TH deadline, plus we have hundreds of drafts scheduled, so it will be easy for you to find your perfect draft time. I have been assured by our game operator, Fanball, that they will be able to accommodate as many registrations and drafts as we have customers to play. There might never be a better time to have an opportunity to win $1,000,000 playing fantasy football as there is this year. THERE IS NO TURNING BACK. SEE YOU IN VEGAS!” said Stan.

There are currently about 4000 teams signed up..lets say they get to 8000 ...the ROI would still be well over 100% as they'd be paying out over 1.5 Million.
