Scoring - Negative Points

Post by FFMadMan » Mon Sep 20, 2004 4:26 pm

Tom,

Is it accurate for a receiver that has -4 rushing yards to have -0.4 deducted from his score? I don't see any negative scoring in the rules with the exception of turnovers, so I don't think this should be deducted. The player in question for me is Jerry Porter.

Thanks.

Math shouldn't be a problem here. -4 x .1 = -.4 just like 150 x .1 = 15.

Well if its all about math, then it should work in several other areas too. For instance, when a QB gets sacked, those yards come off the team passing yards according to stats, but in fantasy, he doesn't lose points. Why not count those as negative points wise guy? I guess he should lose points since its just math. But its a rule not math.

I'm not in a very good mood after getting screwed last night by the McNabb to TO no catch TD. That challenge crap is a whole different rule issue.

Yes, that's how it will work. If there is minus yardage, then the player will have negative points.

I should add that this isn't a deduction as would be the case with a turnover. This is his final yardage output. So if a player rushes for minus yardage in a week, then he will have negative points attributed to him. Again, this is not a deduction.

I agree with you about the no TD catch, FFMM. Why Tice didn't challenge that play I will never know as it cost him the game.

Just to add to what Tom said, if a running back rushes for 200 yards, but among those was a five-yard loss, it would be deducted from his total rushing yardage at that time. The fact that Porter and Terrell finished with negative yardage just showed that they didn't touch the ball enough. Had they finished with 20 yards at game's end, this wouldn't be an issue, but it sure stands out now.

I feel your pain, but watching the Packers at Lambeau lay an egg against the Bears was even more painful!!!
