June 26th $175 Auction DC

Post by Coltsfan » Tue Nov 25, 2008 12:39 pm

I've been reading through some of these old threads discussing different drafts that were held early in the year. Forget some of the bickering here but the first 11 pages were a very good read. It's amazing how accurate a lot of the analysis was.

Rich nailed most of his predictions here. Several people predicted the demise of Russ's team which unfortunately happened. Billy had a tough year but at the time of the draft Chad Johnson was not injured. He also lost Galloway, Burleson, SJax, Yince Young, and Heap to injuries.

Bob definitely put together the best team but I didn't see his team mentioned as being the best in this thread. Here are the standings through week 12.

1. The Bob Squad Bob Swallows 2045.7
2. Coltsfan DC Wayne Ellis 1965.6
3. Ugliest Auction Team Marc Quitsch 1770.15
4. Team Dunn Rich Dunn 1669.2
5. Team Weber Mike Weber 1667.6
6. sat dc Matthew Bayley 1651.85
7. Bauler Shot Caller Matthew Bauler 1644.2
8. Zefurs DC2 KJ Duke 1608.75
9. Team Wiseheart Jim Wiseheart 1533
10. Stay on the Porch BWAZZ Billy Wasosky 1487.6
11. Smokey's Doghouse AUC DC Jules McLean 1483.75
12. Team Steele Russ Steele 1441.45
13. The Gnat's Elbow Gregory Morgan 1429.4
14. Team Benetti Rob Benetti 1278.05

Wayne, I honestly think these early auctions helped my strategy this year. Auctions give a true value to each and every player, and if you've got an auction or two under your belt before you do the live auctions for big money, you're ahead of the game as long as you've learned from your mistakes, as well as others.

I still don't know how my team is in 3rd place. It definitely IS the Ugliest Auction Team I've ever bought.

I do agree that early auctions really help in preparation for the main leagues. For me, there is nothing more fun than a DC auction! I like the DC format but with the auction you don't have to worry about 21 straight defenses going before it's your pick again and you get shut out. It may cost you, but you can control your roster.

Wayne Wayne, thanks for the salt!

It's too bad only Billy's team had injuries! ;)

Sorry Russ - I honestly didn't look through anyone's team but Billy's and that was only because of the long banter that him and Rich had back and forth in regards to who had the better team.

BTW - we did get third in Kentucky - does that win us Super Bowl tickets or something less? :D

I thought you guys were spotting me 300 points for moderating AND playing in this league?

[/QUOTE]I couldn't agree more Wayne!

These leagues are a blast! Without yet asking Greg or Tom, and figuring out if people would be up for it, I am thinking of trying to get a LIVE DC auction in Chicago next year.

Not sure if there would be enough interest and getting the right time would be tricky, but I think for a modest fee there would be some interest.

The times I was considering are.....

-Thursday evening around 8:00 CST.

-Friday evening around 9:00 CST (would be a LONG day after the auction)

-Saturday evening (same scenario as Friday)

- Sunday morning around 9:00 AM CST (before everyone left to go home)

In looking at it, Thursday or Sunday would work best, and of course we would need an auctioneer, but I think it would be a blast.

In the offseason I will try and put up a post to see if there is enough interest.

One more thing.... Bob Swallows is NOT invited!

Just kidding of course! ;)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :D
