Dave Gerczak Wins NFFC Primetime Chamionship!!

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Dec 23, 2008 2:25 am

Dave Gerczak of Appleton, Wisconsin won the debut NBC Sports NFFC Primetime main event in 2008 as he dominated the Championship Round from start to finish. Dave already had a big lead heading into the final week, but he put an exclamation point on the win by having the high score in Week 16. CONGRATULATIONS DAVE on an impressive, impressive season in our debut 12-team format.

Dave has been with the NFFC the last couple of years, taking his own team in 2007 and this year actually running two teams in the NFFC Primetime main event. He won the NFFC Primetime Championship Round and the Consolation Round, and finished 10th overall in the NFFC Classic Championship Round. He had high points total in Chicago League 2 of the NFFC Primetime event and won that league playoff to earn $5,000 plus the $100,000 grand prize. Congratulations Dave on an incredible run to the finish line.

Frank Matsko finished second, followed by Jeff Edwards and Lumpy's Losers. Here are the final standings for the NFFC Primetime Championship Round, although remember they aren't official until Elias scoring changes are complete on Thursday night:

on all those good teams Thanks Captain! The article you wrote and posted on the Footballguys boards about benching your stud QB, referring to Kurt Warner, helped my decision to start Rivers, so thank you.

Just because the advice wasn't proufound, doesn't mean it didn't reaffirm an opinion previously held.

He doesn't have to "get real", his post was real. Why would you think that it wasn't?

Perry, good call and Dave, great job on the call. It's NEVER easy to bench the MVP, the guy that gets you to the title.

Congratulations again Dave, as you have certainly had a year to remember! :D

Sometimes decisions work for you, and sometimes they do not. One thing I know for sure is they ALL look obvious AFTER they happen.

Well done on making the right choice! :D

That pretty much was my reasoning in playing Warner. I figured they would get behind in the game (which they did) and threw for 100 yards and just ONE TD, that is 11 points, which is quite a difference from 1.5!

It was one of those "bizarre" games which don't happen often. Of course Pennington would have been the better play NOW (he too was playing in frigid weather with a MUCH better running game), but when you have a QB who has carried you that far, I personally don't think it is a "no-brainer" like some claim it to be.

Bad part is I lost the 3 week playoff in LV4 by 2.5 points (so even a 4.1 from Warner would of done it! :( ), but you live and learn. No one to blame but myself for that, and quite honestly, Dan Thomas' team was simply better than mine this year and he deserves the 5K.

Now let's get this thread focused back on the man of the hour.....DAVE GERCZAK! :D

Hey Greg,

The most important thing was that the big check cashed and it did, so thanks. But why are Kurt and I still sitting here going back and forth with you and Ryan Houston about a trophy 10 months after we won your 2008 Primetime contest? The trophy finally arrived one week ago, 10 long months after winning the contest. As you know, the trophy has the following issues:

1. Detached and scratched nameplate. Kurt's name wasn't even listed.
2. Said NFFL not NFFC (that is totally annoying)
3. Scratched wood base, probably caused by detached name plate in shipping.
4. Umm, it is 10 months late. It was not mentioned until June or July that the "plan" was to deliver it at the 2009 draft, which never happened.

Also, why do we not have the 3 jerseys that my teams won for weekly high score in weeks 14 and 16 (3 total high scores)? Kurt and I have literally sent about 6-7 emails on the subject and I have all of the responses saved, explaining away the issues, but yet I sit here, jersey-free. I have even dropped 2 jersey sizes (from XL to M) in the time it has taken you to not send them, which I find hilarious actually. If you do not want to give out a trophy in mint condition and do not want to send us the jerseys, that is fine, just do not make a big deal of it and send emails to everyone promoting it or promote the free jersey when get the weekly high score. Are people actually getting the free Fatheads? I sure hope so.

While we were proud of having won the 2008 NFFC Primetime, our post-contest experience has really soured us on the achievement. While not having getting the trophy in a timely fashion sucks in general, not getting the jerseys is triply annoying, since I promised them to my co-owners, and I have to listen to them ask me about them every few weeks.

Out of respect to you, Kurt and I have waited a full 10 months before mentioning this in public, and my latest email response stated that I no longer want any trophy nor the jerseys (I didn't even bother to ask Kurt, because he is so fed up.). But I do deserve an explanation if we are not getting any of the hardware that our teams rightfully earned well over 10 months ago.

Dave Gerczak and Kurt Awe
Team 1 - Winner 2008 NFFC Primetime Championship
Team 2 - 2008 NFFC Primetime Consolation Champion
Team 3 - 10th Place 2008 NFFC Classic
Combined NFFC Classic/Primetime High Scorer
Teams 1 and 2 - 2008 Primetime High Scoring Weekly Team Weeks 14 & 16.
