Idea's to improve the NFFC experience - for little expense.

LOL ... I just pictured myself at a draft next to Ricks draft with all the technology in place to take a guys pick and put it on the board and everyone's laptop as well ... with out a single word being spoken.

Then I say out loud "I can't believe "BRYANT" fell that far. What a great pick".

30 seconds latter the guy in front of Rick picks Bryant and Rick goes postal on me!

Just a weird thought.

It's the second half where some guy is looking and looking and the timer says 15 seconds and then he hears it and boom, he says it, three more guys say it in a 15-second span, and that sleeper pick that could have been the difference between $100k and 40th place in the Championship Round is gone. Anything's possible Rick but all I'm saying is that if someone needs another draft to remind him to draft a certain player perhaps his focus isn't where it needs to be. Just speaking for myself, I know who I want in a draft and where I'm going to take them. I adjust to how the draft is unfolding. I don't need a reminder from another draft to let me know a certain player is worth drafting and I do wonder about anyone who needs that tip to finish off their draft.

Big Mike, that's hilarious. I might look at you funny but "postal" is a little too much. It's funny because it is something Gerard and I talked to Greg about after our first draft in Vegas with 10 leagues and after that it just went by the wayside until this thread.

Have I gotten used to it, yes. Do I like it, no. It sucks as I feel like I'm drafting in a league with 100 owners hollering out player names. With the current system, forget ADP screwing me. It's the Roger Goodell clone in the league next to me.

Part of the problem here may be that I'm 55 and my tolerance for ignorance just isn't what it used to be. :D Today's young bucks are either too drunk or too deaf from the hip-hop music to care. I can remember the drunk days a little.

We want the live events to be an EVENT. It should be special to be in that room drafting live with all of the other participants. For me, that's what makes the NFFC and NFBC great. The experience of drafting live with so many other competitors. I think any attempt to steralize that environment really robs it of much of what makes it so special. That's not something I'd like to see. I'll say again that for me nothing beats being in that room when the drafts are going. The buzz and the intensity is palpable and makes it something pretty incredible. [/QUOTE]I 100% agree that the nothing compares to the live events. I 100% agree that the buzz and intensity is palpable. Where I respectfully disagree is the notion that what creates the buzz and energy is the screaming out of players names that many of us strategically waited on and are hoping can fly under the radar a couple more picks.

I think if there was a less chaotic way of delivering the picks (so they do not influence other leagues and draft picks) it could again "professionalize" the event a little more, and not irritate (and that is all it is, a minor irritant) participants occasionally without in any way taking away from the palpable buzz of energy at the event.

The energy and buzz at the live event is very connected to the stakes. If all those people where their playing for a catered party from Pizza Hut the energy would be less. It comes from knowing you are competing among some of the best fantasy football minds and players in the world and we are competiting for high stakes in the best run event in the market.

Not only the stakes but the fact that the NFFC treats it like it is more important creates buzz. In the business world, how you treat your product creates a lot of the product perception of the quality/importance.

Ugly,

I could not agree more. Many things add up to create that powerful vibe at the live draft that cannot ever be replaced.... That is until todays facebook/twitter/myspace generation of kids hits the fantasy market... they are less and less comfortable socially in real life and more comfortable behind a computer screen!

anyone have any other opinions or ideas on ways to make the draft day experience better?

I threw out some a few posts ago.

To follow up on those ideas I listed.

-I think the issue of quitting on a team needs to be addressed in the opening remarks before the draft. I think addressing how important this issue is to the entire room right before the draft, when everyone is into it, can go a long way toward helping (though not fixing) the problem.

-I think it would help to address how loud it gets when some leagues finish early and make the remaining leagues that are not done yet have to draft around chaos.

-I think past champions should be acknowledged. (I know in the city I drafted in last year he was which was cool).

any other ideas?

Is it possible to setup movie screens and projectors with laptops then film the opening ceremonies at each venue for live simulcast to all draft cities? This would make us feel more part of a large national event, especially this year when we might end up a bit morespread out with 8 cities.

That's a pretty cool idea but the costs involved with that would likely be pretty significant at the present time. My goal since Day 1 of our events was to have a laptop and projector used at each draft table but we're still not close to being able to get that to work from a cost perspective. But if the day comes when we can make these types of things happen I agree it would be a very cool deal.

Imagine being in Chicago and getting a live feed from Vegas of Greg downing his first Corona. :D
