Mike, you are adding $500 to our current league prize payout. Since we had 156 leagues last year, that's taking $78,000 from the overall prizes so that 3rd and 4th place get $100-$300 each. Obviously we wouldn't be able to keep the $100,000 grand prize or many of the other overall prizes with league prizes such as this. Maybe that's what you had in mind to shore up the league prizes, but it makes it tough to compete in this space when your grand prize is a fraction of all the others' out there.Sandman62 wrote:Proposed (after 13-week regular season):

I would have spoken up earlier, but Ronny stole my thunder with each post!!CALI CARTEL wrote:What is the point of doing well the first 11-13 weeks, if all I have to do is finish 4th in my league then get hot late?
This best thing about this league is what College Football has been trying to protect for years...THE REGULAR SEASON IS IMPORTANT.
Now that doesn't mean we don't appreciate all of the ideas you've provided to improve this contest. It's obvious that the $350 entry point is the most dominant part of HSFF and thousands of people are looking for the fairest contest with the best paybacks. As we grow this contest we can continue to add to the prizes. Maybe one day 3rd place gets more love here, but most of the feedback I've gotten is to continue to grow the overall prizes and always make sure the best teams win the most money. 13 weeks does that. The league format where H2H and Total Points are treated equally does that, and a 3-week total points playoff within the league for the last $1,100 certainly does that. I understand where some folks want more teams in that league playoff, but why degrade the value of the regular season so a team that was 100+ points behind the first place team can sneak in and win $1,100 with a good sprint? Should that 4th place team win more than the team that dominated in Total Points through Weeks 1-13? And if so, how is that fair?

Sorry Greg, just trying to get your back.

Oops. I incorrectly counted $500 for 2nd place AFTER paying $500 to both H2H and top points.Greg Ambrosius wrote:Mike, you are adding $500 to our current league prize payout. It was definitely not my intent to take any money from the overall prizes.
Here is a corrected proposal, using the same $2100 league prize fund, compared to the Diamond League prizes:

Re: OLC PLAYOFF TEAMS.
Sorry man, but I hate leagues that start to give back prizes less than the entry fee (I know 3rd place in Primetime is only $500 on a $1500 buyin, but I've suggested just doing away with that prize and adding it to 1st).
Awarding $100-$200 prizes in a league that cost $350 to enter is just plain stupid -- PLAY TO WIN THE LEAGUE, don't suggest changing the format so you can slide into the playoffs in 4th so you can try to get $100 back. I'd eliminate your 3rd/4th place prizes altogether and just cut the entry fee down $25, that'd be a much better solution that spreading the $2100 down to 3 or 4 spots.

I couldnt agree more with anything in the world than what you said Greg - "always make sure the best teams win the most money." Thats why I spend 100% of my fantasy football money here. Plain and simple. If I wanted to crush my league and risk being one and done due to bad luck I could go else where.
Re: OLC PLAYOFF TEAMS.
Hmmm, so in a Diamond League, the top 2 regular season teams could be 200+ points ahead of 3rd and 4th, and they'd both get their entry fee back. Then they could both lose in the 4-team playoffs and the 4th best team could win $60k. Did the "best" team win the most money?ForLoveOfTheGame wrote:I couldnt agree more with anything in the world than what you said Greg - "always make sure the best teams win the most money." I'd guess that the reason this playoff prize structure is this way is because it's just as likely that the 3rd and 4th place teams could be within single digit points of the top points team - and it was therefore decided that they should have just as legitimate a shot at earnings.
And for the record, there's no such thing as "one and done" in NFFC playoffs.

Re: OLC PLAYOFF TEAMS.
The only reason I originally suggested paying something to 3rd and 4th is because they made the playoffs, yet currently don't get a nickel more than the 8 teams that didn't. Though I suppose we could say that their reward was just BEING in the playoffs. But as you said, the Primetime DOES pay 3rd place 1/3 of their entry fee.CALI CARTEL wrote:Sorry man, but I hate leagues that start to give back prizes less than the entry fee (I know 3rd place in Primetime is only $500 on a $1500 buyin, but I've suggested just doing away with that prize and adding it to 1st).

In my revised proposal (above, not on p. 2), I eliminated the 4th place prize, but left the Consolation Winner. Did you see my post a couple pages back where I explained the reason for this?
League Consolation Round:
As an incentive for teams to not quit during the season, why not have a League Consolation Round? You could also consider adding a rule that "In order to participate, a team must not have left in their lineup more than once throughout the season a player on bye or known to be injured ('known' = was already out the week before?)." In the Diamond League, the Consolation Round winner receives $2000, or 20% of their entry fee; so in an Online, 20% of $350 = $70, so round up to $75, or $100?
Re: OLC PLAYOFF TEAMS.
Isn't this exactly what can happen in Diamonds, Ultimates, Supers and Satellites?Greg Ambrosius wrote:... why degrade the value of the regular season so a team that was 100+ points behind the first place team can sneak in and win $1,100 with a good sprint? There seems to be a notion that just because two teams made it into the Overall Championship that they alone should also win all of the league money. I just can't understand why. Pay the teams going to the Overall something, plus their obvious chance at the big money AND their chance at still winning more league money. But why shouldn't the league playoffs run like all other non-DC NFFC leagues?
For the record, we're in 11th place in points in our Online; so this isn't a case of whining about my 3rd or 4th place team not having a shot. But I'm also in that "Sabotaged" Satellite league, and currently in a 4-way tie for H2H at 9-3, and also 3rd in points, less than 30 points behind 2nd and more than 100 ahead of 4th. So I'm thankful there that I still have a good shot at a playoff spot (which I wouldn't have as good of if only one each of H2H and points were paid).

Re: OLC PLAYOFF TEAMS.
I have no problem with the determination of the overall champ as is. I would like to see a third team added for the league championship. Case in point, in one of my OC leagues, there were three of us 8-3 and top three in points before week 12. I was fortunate enough to win in week 12, they both lost. Going into week 13, I'm 9-3, they are 8-4, and I'm third in points, 41 points behind the leader and 16 points behind second place. Fourth place is 91+ points behind the leader.
All this being said, I would propose the H2H champ and top two in points (not the H2H champ) make the league playoffs. I'm not sure I would change the league payout any, just reward one more team for a good season with a trip to the league championship.
