I'm not dead set against having drops be available but since the price point is minimal I wonder if it's easy to flood a draft with buddies. 5 guys coordinating a drop feeding one super team. I was looking at streamlining this contest for both the operator and players. If it does become a high volume contest (5000 entries etc) do Greg and Tom really want to lord over add/drops to make sure nothing funky is going on? Does the player really want to be working the faab 5-6 times for the 10 teams he has on TOP of the 15+ weekly faab teams? That's why I though 3 periods to "touch" up the squad would be sufficient.

Our Main Event, prime times, Supers, auctions are our bread and butter. Those are the ones we fuss over. I thought the less fuss for a $125 team the better off we'd be.
FFOC had faab every week plus first-come-first-serve after faab was over for the remainder of each week - and there were guys that had 50+ teams in that contest. Having only 3 faab periods sounds appealing today, but won't be as much so when you can't field a team going into the stretch run for $50k.

I'd increase roster size too as Nelson suggested.

If league play is over after week 9 you're ok with FAAB coming from a league that has been static for 4 weeks (if last week' s pickups are prior to week13) ? When was FFOC's final faab week ?

I saw the FFOC more as a war of attrition. You had to stay healthy and have the right reserves to survive that cut from week10-16. If I remember correctly. Having a 25 man roster would go a long way towards eliminating most of the faab weeks.

The FFOC used a $100 FAAB (was funny seeing people drop $80+ on the 'flavor of the week' after week 1 both years). Waivers ran before Week 2 through Week 9, with FCFS after waivers that didn't cost $1 from the FAAB.

If you are planning on a similar 9 week "regular season" schedule, why not go with 3 waiver periods? One before Week 3, before Week 6 and before Week 9?

Also if you don't plan on using the 3RR, make the # of rounds even (24 or 26) so the late picks don't get doubly screwed by not only picking last in the first round, but last in the final round as well. Have no problem with it for the Draft Champions format, because the 3RR balances it out, so the odd number doesn't really matter there (infact it's probably more fair).

Actually, you're right about week 13 - that wouldn't work - there might be only one team still in the running in some leagues. The final faab would have to happen no later than during round 1 of the playoffs with 5 teams alive in each league.

Three faabs seems light to me, but it might be ok with 24-rd drafts. Prior to weeks 2, 6 and 10 would probably be best. My preference would be 4 faabs, prior to weeks 2, 5, 8 and 11.

I don't think dropped players need to become ineligible, but any faab after week 9 should include only playoff teams.

The Franchise wrote:I think 3 FAAB periods work if rosters can be increased. Maybe 24 Rd draft? With only 3 FAAB periods most teams might look to carry more than one kicker and defense to cover bye weeks and if injuries set in then it could become a challenge to set a lineup in between periods ...
Yes, I was actually thinking 26 rounds. That's only 260 players and it allows folks to cover multiple Kickers and D/STs.

Yeah, I didn't even think about some teams being eliminated and thus not eligible for FAAB. Your suggestion above Ronny makes sense. But how about before Weeks 2, 6 and 9? Then everyone has to live with the players they have in the post-season and hope for good health over those last 7 weeks. Wow, talk about attrition. Could be wild; but low maintenance for sure after Week 9.

Thoughts on that?

If we did the last FAAB in Week 10, 5 of the 10 teams would have had only 2 FAAB periods. That gets tricky. I'm not against 26 rounds and FAAB in Weeks 2, 6 and 10, but most teams in Week 6 wouldn't know if they were bidding ALL IN on their final pickups or saving cash for that third FAAB. Kind of tough. Having that final FAAB in Week 9 gives all 10 teams a shot at their final pickups. Just something to consider.

We're getting closer. Let's nail this down. Thanks for the feedback all.

I like the concept. Would also be in favor or minimal or no FAAB period. At most 3 FA periods would be max I would want to see.

I personally think, if you are going to have FAAB at all, you need to have one FAAB before or after week 1. If you are going to start these drafts in July, that first FAAB period is huge for final roster cutdowns and actual starting players, vs rumored starters..

I would even be in favor of a FAAB after week 1 and after week 9 (prior to the playoffs) and that's it.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. I think we're getting close to final rules. There's a lot of NFFC guys who played this concept before and really liked it. I could see a lot of guys taking 5-Packs and 9-Packs. I also could see a lot of drafts filling on the night of the draft as these 10-teamers at $125 each would be the ultimate impulse buy with a $50,000 grand prize out there.

I think we're close. Thanks again for the email and feedback.
