Greg & Tom's FSTA Experts League Team

Post by Tom Kessenich » Thu Jun 13, 2013 7:51 am

Greg and I took part in the FSTA Experts League draft last night in Chicago. The entire draft was broadcast live on Sirius Radio. We had a good time and I think we drafted a strong team picking 14th in the 14-team league. We'll talk more about it on our show today at 4 pm ET so tune in but here's a look at the roster:

QB-Matt Ryan
QB-Alex Smith

RB-Alfred Morris
RB-Maurice Jones-Drew
RB-Isaiah Pead
RB-Pierre Thomas

WR-Julio Jones
WR-Vincent Jackson
WR-Miles Austin
WR-Lance Moore
WR-Santonio Holmes
WR-Dexter McCluster

TE-Owen Daniels
TE-Dustin Keller
K-Justin Tucker
D-Seattle

I like our foundation quite a bit. A big key is MJD as our RB2. There's no doubt he comes with risk but the RBs were drying up at that point and, if healthy, he clearly has massive upside as a RB2. If we're going to win he's going to be a big key. I think our WR depth is outstanding, our TEs solid and we were both very happy to get Matt Ryan as our QB. Our running back depth could be suspect if Pead busts and MJD can't get healthy but I think there will be a lot of teams in the league dealing with potential RB issues. It's tough to walk away from a 14-team draft with a perfect team. :)

really like the team. If Pead succeeds than you will be fine at RB

Also know that Andy reid loves McCluster. Wanted to draft him when still with eagles. I imagine he will make McCluster fantasy relevant. So he is a good sleeper.

Tom can you either add the round drafted or list the team in the order drafted?

TIA

I thought you guys did a great job with #14 and no 3RR.

I would of went another direction a couple times (same position), but all in all, about as good as you can do with what you had to work with. :D

I like Gardners core of Peyton, Martin, R. Bush, Cobb, Wayne, Gonzalez, and Maclin. Not a fan of his depth after Deangelo though. I think overall best team is Chris Liss with Luck, M. Ball, L. Miller, Dez, A.J. Green, Bernard, and Shorts. I like your team but probably would have taken Montee Ball over MJD and Dez over Julio (very close but more upside for Dez). Im surprised Dewayne Allen and Tyler Eifert went undrafted. I think its hard to assemble the best team from the 14 hole and no 3RR. Pead and MJD will be the difference for you certainly if they hit.

I watched this draft last night and some picks were puzzling to me from some of the owners who drafted.

Is this a Draft Champions Best ball format or are their waiver moves and is this league actually played out on the field ?

Do you set line ups and since you only made 16 picks will you be getting more players later ?
2023 NFFC Cutline Champion and 4th place ($90,000) (1720 teams)
2014 RTS Fantasy Championship National Champion ($200,000) (2460 teams)
2012 NFFC Online National Champion and 4th place ($110,000 winner) (1872 teams)
2014 DFWC National Champion (288 teams)

I also think Liss and Gardners are the top 2 teams...
I also agree about Dez over Jones
but pending trouble w/ the law I have MJD over Ball

No idea what fantasy Alarm was thinking in this draft.... worst team by quite a bit
imo

Henry, this is a live league so it will be played out with FAAB and all that during the year. Rick Wolf and Glenn Colton won the league last year.

Greg and I talked yesterday on our show that in hindsight it's possible we may have gone with Ball over MJD. I don't think Ball has MJD's upside, though, and as we said on the air you need to be aggressive to win this type of league. MJD is an aggressive play-to-win pick in my estimation.

Dez and Jones are coin flips for me. I have them and Demaryius Thomas ranked almost equally. Greg and I like Jones a little more so we went in that direction. But it easily could've been Dez there at that spot.
