(cant believe that is even possible!). You are beyond done getting a 0 at the NFFC with QB scoring here sooooooooo high
I dont think any idea where you HAVE to watch every second of every game will ever fly but you could have something like this. You rank your positions, lets use QB for laughs for me, and it goes like this:
1. Michael Vick
2. Alex Smith
3. Geno Smith
So Vick is my starting QB, he starts for me. *IF* he gets hurt then from that point on (Lets say Q1, 3:26 remaning), I would get Smith's points from there on. Obviously its complicated because what if Vick returns like a quarter later? But at least with this way you wouldn't have to watch any games / make any changes (because many people cant watch games all day Sunday). If Vick plays at 4 and Smith at 1 it wouldnt matter, I would still get Smith's points.
The idea i originally had before reading this post was: You rank your players at each position like above and then its either set as one of these options or maybe you get to pick the cut off. Say the 3 options are "Active, Q1, Q2." So if you pick active then as long as your player is active that you have ranked #1 he's locked in, if he gets hurt in the first second you are screwed. The next option Q1 means he has to finish Q1 for you to get his stats, if he doesnt then you automatically get ALL the stats for your #2 QB, not from the point of injury. Or Q2 where he has to finish the first 2 quarters. I just always hope my guys can play at least a half before getting hurt. I find I lose like crazy with 0's but if they can play a half and get some points before injury I can survive. My favorite thing about this is when you have a questionable star in the 4 o'clock games you have to consider benching him to not get 0'd, this way you wouldn't have to worry about that. *One bonus thing about this idea is when people give up and dont update their lineups this would update them unless they had a ton of byes*
And to be clear, I'm not saying "change it to this right now!" More just talking out loud to see if anything sticks...
for love of game,
Thanks for the reply. Again, I shouldn't have to say this, but on message boards sometimes it is necessary. I am not politicking for this format. I am just throwing out the idea. As technology continues to improve that allows us to get detailed information from all the games in real time, maybe there will be a time that we can manage our teams in greater detail and in some ways be able to navigate around certain injuries.
There obviously would be tons of logistical things that would have to be worked through. I am certainly not saying this should be part of the main stream games either. This would/could be a fringe format for the select groups of guys who like to manage their teams in more detail. What if you could be watching games and your RB1 is struggling and your RB3 is on your bench lighting it up. Would it be fun to be able to make a move IN REAL TIME not unlike how in real football line up changes during a game are possible.
Before anyone got into the details of how it would/could be done, I was just curious if the concept was interesting at all.

I also agree that injuries SUCK and in-game injuries are the worst kind of SUCK. I also dealt with Cutler on a number of my teams last week and would have benefited from having a Russell Wilson, a Rivers, or a Kaep (all QB's that I unfortunately sat for Cutler's negative score) just jump in for those various squads mid-game.
Still, I don't know if this is the way I'd want the game to go. Injuries are part of the game. As I said, they SUCK. However, I'm not sure I'd want to have those kind of safe guards. They're too arbitrary.
Why should I have benefited from voluntarily choosing to bench Wilson, Rivers, or Kaep for Cutler while those who had to start Cutler because Brees was on a bye had no such option?

That just adds more strategy to it. Brees is on a bye and you have Cutler, maybe you want to add a third QB as insurance (if we had some kind of option to put players in i mean)? Maybe you don't.
Its not like in a real football game if the QB gets hurt right away they have to play 10 on 11 or something? They get to put a back up in, maybe we should too. Just an interesting topic started in this thread. Again, I'm not saying to change anything, just tossing around some thoughts.

there would not be a third string qb. as it is now in 14 team leagues you have a couple left. i started cutler in most leagues last week and it does suck. i had foster on the same team but still edged out a win. if peyton goes down , are the broncos still going to win ? same goes with us. injuries suck but not much you can do about it.
THIS IS THE BUSINESS WE HAVE CHOSEN

It is time to go to the Team QB concept. Like Defense, your draft a Teams QB and get points for the back-ups who play after injury and basically own the QB position for a team. Played in a league like this, hated the idea at first, loved in practice. In such a high-stakes league and important position, it is time to consider the TEAM QB concept. So in the Cutler situation last week, you would accumulate all the points from the Bear QB position. Have at it.

I wouldn't be opposed to this. Of course, in the case of Vick (-0.4) and Barkley (4.9), that's a VERY small consolation

Put me down for +1. In the two home leagues I've run for 15 years for my buddies we do team QB and team K (there is ZERO reason not to have team kicker).

Guys, injuries are part of the game. Let's not move in the direction where in the name of 'fairness' they become no longer important. You started a Cutler or a Vick last week? You are going to get penalized. Period. No protection. You draft one of the rock solid QB's instead like a Manning, Rodgers, Brees? You reap the rewards of having a QB who rarely goes down. THAT is the strategy of this game.
I never lost a game. I only ran out of time. Bobby Layne
Kid....if you're going to make it in this league, you're going to have to learn to drink. Bobby Layne

According to the site I'll link at the bottom Cutler had been sacked the 4th least in the NFL so there goes that whole argument. Rodgers and Brees have been sacked 50% more than Cutler. Cutler was the #6 fantasy QB before he got hurt. Players are allowed to break out, maybe Cutler was. I agree with you on Vick though.

Vick was huge injury risk/reward that everyone knew about...no way there should be team QBs to bail ppl out...injuries part of the game...draft and use ur FAAB $$$ wisely!
