Does anyone even like having a Def/SpTeam spot?

33 points at half for a really bad philly d... Very minimal strategy to this roster spot yet can mean all the difference in huge money leagues.. What say you?

While I of course didn't expect 30+ tonight out of them, Philly is a VERY opportunistic defense, and I would of been shocked had they not scored a TD tonight. It's more about WHO they are playing against......Newton and Carolina are pathetic. The little jitterbug Sproles is just icing on the cake. ;)

They almost doubled their interception output on the year tonight.. Insane. Not something you expect from Cam Newton who has only thrown 5 interceptions all year.... There is so little strategy when playing defenses... Just seems like throwing Fielding percentage into the stats in baseball.

Shawn.....I'm not going to say I haven't "swung and missed" many times on playing defenses/ST, but I disagree that there isn't a strategy to streaming defenses.

+1, of course there are outlier games.

Streaming defenses sounds easy enough as anyone can do it, but it always ends up being an advantage as there are a few teams who don't pay as much attention to match-ups. Find the team who is playing Geno Smith and enjoy the chaos.

I completely disagree. The Eagles Defense/ST was the highest scoring fantasy defense going into the game tonight, not counting tonight. They give up points, but they have a great punt returner and make plays on defense. They had 9 sacks tonight, along with the 5 turnovers. I believe I heard that Philly has a takeaway in 20 consecutive games. That's a pretty good defense.

Its not like substituting fielding percentage. That is a poor comparison. Sounds like someone lost to a team that had the Philly D. I stream defenses and often make the wrong decision. But, Philly and Arizona this week were very predictable, if you were lucky enough to have them on your roster.

I actually didn't lose and am not as bitter about it as may seem. I figured most would disagree and I agree there is something to the streaming aspect of it. It just seems it plays a lot more into the luck aspect than skill. Patrick willis, Navarro Bowman, Aldon Smith please hurry back!

Love defenses, hate the scoring system.

What we saw out of Philly last night is no different than someone starting Big Ben vs Baltimore and scoring 60 points. Outlier games happen and over the course of 13 weeks, a defense is usually not the make or break point for most teams.

I will respectfully disagree as I believe there is strategy to which defense you play. I agree this game is a great comparison to Ben going insane the other day (though I expect more big games from Ben given bad Steelers defense and his weapons). I also think there is strategy in choosing kickers. I agree with Billywaz in that it is easy to swing and miss. I think the better fantasy player gets it right on a 65-35 type of ratio.

If anything, I'd like to see scoring adjusted.

We added PPR to normalize the WR position and give value to those who are involved in moving the chains, so it makes sense to me the next logical step is to reward points against/yards against.

In this scoring system, you can give up 50 points and get a pick six (8 points) and you'd outscore a team who gave up 13 points with two turnovers and a sack (7 points).

Negative points need to be added to teams who give up 30+ points, and teams should get more credit for holding teams under 20.

Something along the lines of:

Shutout - 20 points (rarely happens)
1-10 - 10 points
11-15 - 7 points
15-20 - 5 points
21-25 - 2 points
25-30 - 0 points
30-40 - minus points
40+ - minus 5 points

I'm a firm believer of streaming and it didn't work out for me last season, which happens. I averaged 7 ppg out of D (using 7 defenses) and only had one DEF touchdown. You're relying too much on touchdowns with the current scoring system.
