Primetime Roster Breakdown

Post by Coach JP » Tue Dec 02, 2014 7:26 pm

It's that lovely time of year again for the Primetime playoffs to begin. This data presented to you is simply how many teams have player X on their playoff roster for the Championship round of the Primetime. Unfortunately, this takes me a bit of work and I only play in the Primetime, so I don't have the Classic info.

There were 39 leagues, meaning the maximum a player can appear on this list is 39 times. With 119 teams total, each team's average roster composition heading into the playoffs is:

2.19 Quarterbacks per roster (261 players total)
6.04 Running Backs per roster (719 players total)
6.03 Wide Receivers per roster (718 players total)
2.43 Tight Ends per roster (290 players total)
1.51 Kickers per roster (180 players total)
1.78 defenses per roster (212 players total)

Lots of people are taking the 'risk' at the kicker position, which is expected. Only 61 teams chose to carry more than 1 kicker, or roughly half the teams.

The Most Selected Player
For the second straight year, a wide receiver was the most owned player heading into the playoffs. Last year Josh Gordon was owned on 25 teams. This year, with an ADP of 48, Emmanuel Sanders is the most owned player as he's on 23 teams.

Sanders finished 3rd in points per game and didn't miss a game, which was tremendous value on his ADP as the 23rd player taken.

The Top Ten

After Sanders, we had the following:

HB Le'Veon Bell (22 teams) - He was the 11th RB off the board on average, and those who got him in the third, fourth and even fifth round during his arrest made out like bandits.

WR Jeremy Maclin (21 teams) - ADP of 29 at WR, finished 5th overall at the position while staying healthy.

QB Andrew Luck (20 teams) - No surprise here. Everyone in the top 5 owns Luck, and I'm proud to say I was the highest ranked team who didn't have this points machine.

WR Odell Beckham Jr (20 teams) - This one is surprising because a majority of those who have him got him in FAAB, or didn't have him for half the season. Beckham was a huge add to teams who were already competing for the playoffs.

WR Antonio Brown (20 teams) - He was Mr. Consistent, and finished as the best non-QB in the league.

RB C.J. Anderson (19 teams) - This scares the sh*t out of me, as he was only in lineups for four weeks max. Teams who have C.J. were already stacked, and only got better.

TE Greg Olsen (18 teams) - Olsen is a surprise on this list as he only broke 20 points twice, but he was remarkably consistent. He failed to score in double digits only three times at a position where people were taking single digits constantly.

RB Tre Mason (18 teams) - Mason really hasn't done much, but he might have helped a few people squeeze into the playoffs with that latest 37 point performance.

WR T.Y. Hilton (18 teams) - Hilton was Luck's favorite target, and as a result those who had him had a lot of success. He had an ADP of 24th in all 12 team leagues.

Look at the running back position this year, what an absolute mess it was.

Code: Select all

Bell, Le'Veon	22
Anderson, C.J.	19
Mason, Tre	18
Murray, DeMarco	17
Forsett, Justin	17
Foster, Arian	17
Blue, Alfred	16
Herron, Daniel	16
Morris, Alfred	15
Murray, Latavius	15
Davis, Knile	15
Hyde, Carlos	14
Forte, Matt	14
Thomas, Pierre	13
Jennings, Rashad	13
Cunningham, Benny	12
Riddick, Theo	12
Miller, Lamar	12
Sims, Charles	11
Jackson, Steven	11
Vereen, Shane	11
Gray, Jonas	11
McKinnon, Jerick	11
Lacy, Eddie	10
Michael, Christine	10
West, Terrance	10
Jackson, Fred	10
Blount, LeGarrette	10
McFadden, Darren	10
This list is mostly waiver wire or mid-late round picks. There was no stability at all with the position.

Thanks for doing this Jaryd. This is fantastic information and we'll definitely use this on our SiriusXM show tomorrow night. Great information for everyone involved. If anyone in the Classic is just as talented in Excel and can post those rosters, that would be awesome information as well. Thanks all.

Much appreciated...great stuff!
