This is going to be a much tougher year for people to get the draft slots they want with so many people wanting to be on the back end. The 3RR really balances out a draft when you have a single dominant player. But when you have 10-15 similar players it really doesn't do much to enhance the drafting. That's easy to say in retrospect so it seems like some years it really works as intended, other years it sends a very distinct advantage to the other end of the draft such as this year. And this is not a statement of condemning or condoning 3RR, just stating an observation.

Let me ask this: If 1 is the lowest preference for owners in 3RR, let's assume that 12 is the lowest in a straight serpentine draft. So which would you rather have: 3RR's 1, 24, 36 and 37 picks, or Serpentine's 12, 13, 36 and 37?
The real downside of both options are the players at 36 and 37. There's a huge dropoff in talent there than at the beginning of the third round. And at the very least in 3RR, that owner is getting the best player in the draft to start his team. In Serpentine, he's getting two of the top 13. So which option is better in your mind? And I'll ask everyone that.
One trend I'm seeing is that even though many owners don't want 1 to 5, those who are getting those spots are jumping WRs more now than in earlier drafts. You are seeing 4 of the first 5 picks or 5 of the first 6 picks going with WRs, dropping the top RBs to the second half of the draft. Those owners are saying that they are willing to jump the WRs because that's who they wanted later on in the first. It's changing the whole dynamic of the first round.
No setup works perfectly, but we think 3RR/KDS still allows more owners to get a top 3 preference than any other setup. Every year there are spots that people want to avoid and this year is no different.
And remember, as much as we concentrate on the first round, who carried fantasy teams to titles last year? Mainly it was Le'Veon Bell, who went in the third or fourth rounds last year, and Odell Beckham Jr., who was a late draft pick and even a FAAB pickup. Your draft spot is just one aspect of winning a title, as we all know. Good luck all.
I would rather have the backend of a straight serpentine draft as well..... But that's just me. I think there are 12-13 guys that look just about alike and at the end I can get two of them.

The "Beat Jeff Erickson" Online Championship League was interesting because seven different owners got their first preference and 9 of 12 owners got a Top 2 preference. Jeff wasn't one of them, however, as he got his 9th preference, the 4th pick. But he liked his team last night, so there's always that. Here's a look at how this league started out:

* SEVEN owners got their first preference and two owners got their 2nd preference. Other preferences received were 3, 5 and 9.
One interesting trend that we're seeing now in the NFFC is that with the WRs going earlier and earlier in the first round, owners are moving their KDS preferences up from 12 and 11 to 7, 8 and 9. And in this draft, five of the first six picks were WRs, leaving 7-9 with the top Running Backs. Those owners said they were surprised to see the top WRs gone, but changed gears and started with one of the Top RBs. Interesting.

No longer do we see Nos. 12 and 11 as the dominant first choices. In fact, 11 hasn't been a top choice for much of this week. Interesting change here everyone.
