Make Your Prediction: Brady's Suspension Appeal
Re: Make Your Prediction: Brady's Suspension Appeal
I think I take Brady completely off my draft list at this point.
When you can grab a sure thing early - Rodgers, Luck... or you can wait, and get a Cam Newton or Matt Ryan, etc in a much lower round, why bother with Brady at all.

Re: Make Your Prediction: Brady's Suspension Appeal
I totally heart Judge Berman. He was all kinds of awesome in the appeal hearing today. He essentially tore the NFL's case to shreds by using simple common sense. He asked where the evidence of a conspiracy was and if there was a conspiracy why did Brady perform better in the AFC title game with regulated footballs?
Heart this guy.
His basic attack against Brady was why wasn't he more cooperative, something the NFLPA attorney admitted he should've been. This is smart since Brady could fall back on that as his plea and is so the Favre case I cited earlier shows that failure to cooperate results in a fine, not a suspension.
I'm not a lawyer and I'm no student of law but this sure looked a butchering of the NFL's case today in my opinion.

Re: Make Your Prediction: Brady's Suspension Appeal
A real leader, a real Commissioner like David Stern, would have buried this the week after the incident, not had a VP leak the story to ESPN, called everyone into his office face to face in a private meeting, levied fines, changed the pre-game handling procedures of footballs, and buried it before it even became a story and truly protect the "logo." Instead, Goodell hires an outside law firm to conduct a criminal-level investigation regarding 2 psi of air in a football, not a counterfeit football as Mike Leach said, a regulation football that was 2 psi underweight. Further, they do all this and release the findings through the media and make this is a public spectacle, thereby forcing the Patriots and Brady to defend themselves publicly. Meanwhile, while the media firestorm eats all this up, Roger Goodell is playing the fiddle on the roof while the NFL flagship franchise, the defending Superbowl Champions and the greatest QB and face of the NFL are publicly filleted.
This has become a story because Roger Goodell and the NFL got mocked by TMZ releasing the Ray RIce video making them look like the buffoons that they are. And NOW, Roger Goodell has to "prove," that he & the NFL can handle disciplinary issues, when two non-lawyer buffoons, Roger Goodell and Troy Vincent have no clue what they're doing, no clue what due process is, no clue what a fair and impartial appeal is, and once again, the NFL has not gotten ahead of this story and are going to look like fools again. This is as much about Roger Goodell attempting to retain his disciplinary powers as much as about Brady. I'm still waiting to find out how the Peyton Manning torn quad not being on injury reports is not being investigated on the same criminal level. As a handicapper, that is more of a story to me than this Brady nonstory. Maybe Mark Cuban was right.

This was a Ronda Rousey-esque beatdown of the NFL today by Judge Berman. Plain and simple.

Awesome ready by someone who understands what the integrity of the game is supposed to mean and how it should be upheld.

Stick by my post on page 3 here........Brady goes files an injunction so he can play..ties it up in the courts for months..... a few years maybe knowing the court system.....Kessler makes another kajillion $ getting paid by Brady AND the NFLPA
Re: Make Your Prediction: Brady's Suspension Appeal
Your man-on-the-street take sounds plausible for talk radio, except to get an injuction there is a high threshold of showing a strong likelihood of prevailing on the merits and irreparable harm if no injuction, but, most importantly, BOTH sides have agreed to resolution before first game, but lets not let the facts get in the way of your "the-lawyers-just-want-to-churn-billable-hours-and-drag-this-out-narrative."
