Modified head-to-head format
UPDATED thru wk 9:
LV-au Modified standings: (actual in parentheses)
1. Chiefs/Gekko 7-2 (7-2,1st)
2. Midway Bolts 7-2 (6-3,3rd)
3. gigglin 6-3 (5-4,5th)
4. Lumpy 6-3 (6-3,2nd)
5. Mr Bill 6-3 (5-4,6th)
6. Zefurs 5-4 (3-6,11th)
7. Big Mac 5-4 (5-4,7th)
8. Follow me 4-5 (4-5,8th)
9. Dyv 4-5 (6-3,4th)
10 Walla 4-5 (2-7,14th)
11 Dr Hood 3-6 (3-6,12th)
12 CC's 3-6 (4-5,9th)
13 Wagoner 3-6 (3-6,13th)
14 UFS 0-9 (4-5,10th)
Conclusion YTD:
Gekko is winning and he should be. The top 6 teams should make the playoffs. The Zefurs, who would be in 6th place would be unfairly eliminated. Dyv, who should be in 11th place would instead sneak into the playoffs. Walla walla should still be in contention, but has gotten the shaft and is done with a 2-7 record.
UFS, who should be a shocking 0-9 under the modified format actually has a decent chance of making the playoffs with a 4-5 record.

Modified head-to-head format
Zefurs, It's the top two in each division and the next two high points. Why would you be eliminated? If your team is one of the top six teams in total points, there is a good chance you will make the play-offs.

Kevin, everyone in the NFFC should play through the season as we even provide a Consolation Bowl for non-playoff teams. Everyone carries their weekly scoring average into the Consolation Bowl for Weeks 14, 15 and 16 and you can still win money even if you had a bad regular season. So yes, I am always concerned about "dead" teams and I realize that some owners haven't changed their lineups recently, but providing this Consolation Bowl is one way of keeping everyone involved throughout the season. If someone pays $1,250 and still doesn't take the time to make out his/her lineup, that is their unfortunate decision, not mine.
I love your analysis and the All-Play format is one option in determining league champions. It's just not one we've chosen to incorporate at this point. But again, at season's end it will be fun to analyze all of the playoff teams and scenarios and see what was good and what was bad. I trust you'll do this math for every league and tell me where the faults lie. I look forward to the report.

UFS, who should be a shocking 0-9 under the modified format actually has a decent chance of making the playoffs with a 4-5 record. While I am grateful for my modest luck in this league, I think it's fair to point out the overall points in the auction league are incredibly tight:
1209 Gigglin Marlin
1170 Gekko
1145 Lumpy
1135 Midway Bolts
1129 Mr. Bill & Sluggo
1116 Follow Me
1109 Dyv
1095 Zefurs
1057 Big Mac
1031 Dr. Hood
1027 CC's Desperados
1000 Walla Walla
927 Team Waggoner
918 UFS
So, while it's fair to criticize an all-play record... the fact that I'm less than 40 pts. away from 3rd highest score in the league doesn't make me feel like I'm getting TOO lucky with my current 6-3 record. It could simply be a fluke of what competition I've played vs. what you've played and might even out some by year's end.
The other item I might point out is that it's possible teams might play a little different in an All-Play format. Against a specific opponent, you sometimes will insert one player or another because of your opponent's QB matchup or an interest to AVOID your opponent's QB throwing to your 3rd string WR, etc. I'm not saying this has been significant in my lineup adjustments, but it is a thought to factor in the final analysis.
I have no objection to all-play. Anything that makes the game more fair and allows the best teams to compete is good in my book.

Dyv I don't disagree that its not hugely unfair in this case, just somewhat, which is enough really since its easy to make it more fair.
The actual weekly competition is irrelevant though based on the modified all-play which I suggested. The modification is such that the top 7 scoring teams each week get a win, and the bottom seven get a loss, which is obviously much more fair than the current h2h win-loss record, while retaining a lot of the "fun" element of head-to-head because you can keep an eye on the teams and players that are on the bubble each week.

I agree its not your fault in any way if some people stop playing, but by having the top 7 scoring teams in the lge get a "W" each week, you could eliminate any and all of the unfair bias from scheduling while keeping the head-to-head excitement and the additional strategy involved of putting a good team on the field each week (versus just sending the top scoring teams into the playoffs). From the two leagues I've looked at, every team that has scored over 130 pts in a week has won, while the lowest point total to pick up a win in any week has been in the 100-105 range.
As for a complete analysis of all lges, Id be happy to do that - all I would need is weekly scoring for each lge which unfortunately I can only get for the lges that I'm in. If STATS could send the scores in a spreadsheet I could do it very quickly though.
