The auction is the best event, Greg, and I am pretty certain that you would get the same answer from at least 75% of the participants.

The auction is even a better test of skills, but will never be as popular as the traditional format.

Yes, that's a typo in the rules. It's six playoff teams: The two best h2h records in each division and then the next two best point totals regardless of division. So we could have four teams from one division and two from another in the playoffs or three and three.

The divisional winners receive first-round byes. The top second-place h2h record plays the lowest scoring wild card team, while the worst second-place h2h record plays the highest scoring wild card team. The No. 1 h2h team plays the lowest seeded team to come out of the first round and the No. 2 h2h team plays the other first-round winner. The winners of those playoff games meet in Week 16 for the Super Bowl and the two losers meet in the third-place game.

I'll get the word "division" out of the rules and fix that part. Sorry for the confusion.

Auction is far better, and this is from someone who is 3-4 in the NY auction league (Charles Rogers going down hurt a lot), and is 5-2 in NY6 and 11th in points overall.

Jersey Paul's points are all good, and to repeat what Diesel added "It's no one's fault but your own if you don't do well!"

Seems like a good league for all the "whiners" about draft position. I won't mention any names (COUGH!) Gecko (COUGH!) :D :D

I liek auction leagues. I didn't do the NFFC auction, but I did do the other leagues auction last year. It is fun and more relaxed. It's a nice side league, but not for a championship event.

The premier fantasy event in baseball (prior to NFBC) was LABR. In the words of the perennial bad drafter Greg Ambrosius "The LABR League was started in 1994 with the likes of Keith Olbermann, Peter Gammons, Bill James, Danny Sheridan and Alex Patton." What format is this prestigious event? Yes, Auction.

Auction is so pervasive in baseball that fantasy rankings are always given in dollar values as opposed to "top 3 pick" or "late 2nd round".

Yes, auctions require more skill. I guess that knocks them out of consideration.

I like all the formats - Auction is fun and the main event is fun as well. Unfortunately with the auction you would get the perception from 90% of fantasy football gamers that it's some obscure little cottage game.

I've always been fascinated with why so many fantasy players just won't budge off the first format introduced to the hobby.

Baseball has majority auctions.
Football has majority snake.

And only about 20-30% willing to try the other.

Football was way behind baseball until the 1994 baseball strike. Now it's something like 6 to 1 football.

JP, I must correct your semantics. I am a bad "bidder" in LABR, not a bad "drafter." :D

I finished second in 1994 AL LABR with the likes of those gentlemen competing as I held the lead for much of the year. But I had a team that was dying fast and as you know back then you just got a weekly standings update from your trusty stats service. On the Sunday prior to the strike date, I held a 2.5 lead that I KNEW was precarious. Ron Darling promptly went out on that Monday and gave up nine earned runs in 1 1/3 innings and I knew I was in trouble if the players walked out. Sure enough they struck after the Friday games and they never came back, leaving me 3.5 points behind Larry Labadini for the debut LABR AL League title.

In 11 years of competing, I have not won a LABR League title. But they keep asking me back, so I must be an easy donation. I've had my chances, but I just haven't gotten it done and this year was a disaster.

LABR is still a 4x4 league and I have to convince John Hunt to get with the times and make it 5x5.

Now if I could just get Zaleski to help me manage my LABR team during the year while I'm pumping out fantasy football rankings and ratings, then I'd have a shot at a LABR League title! :D
