Packers Are On TV And I'm At Work; Let's Chat

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Aug 16, 2004 2:24 pm

Why would a Packers' season ticket holder be at work on the opening night of the pre-season with a game at Lambeau Field? Because I'm a dedicated employee, that's why. Besides, there's no way this game could compare to that playoff game last year at Lambeau between the Packers and Seahawks, so it's not worth my time anyway.

But I want to make sure everyone has a chance to ask the tough questions tonight about football or the NFFC, so ask away. I see that Tom is at home checking the Message Boards, so I'll let him chime in when he can. Thanks everyone for a great, great day of signups and let's have some fun tonight.

Packers update Greg:

Favre looked good. He missed a wide open Driver for a possible TD. Other than that, he looked like Favre. Green looked like Green. No worries about the foot problem that kept him out of practice late last week.

Couch looks real bad.

But he looks better than B.J. Sander. You know what I think about that stupid draft pick and he has done nothing to make me think Sherman didn't royally screw the pooch there. He has not looked good punting at all.

The Seahawks are going to be real scary offensively. They looked very sharp with the first unit and Robinson didn't make the trip.

Greg, Glad to see none of the Wisconsin women have caught up to you for last nights remark to Gordon. :) Do you think the Big Tuna might be regretting coaching for Dallas? I'm thinking this will be his last year coaching.

You were right that the women in Wisconsin would be hunting for me, but they know hunting season doesn't open here in Wisconsin until November. They love to wear blaze orange and outdrink the men here. Trust me, I have 44 years of living in this state to realize that, even though I do love my Wisconsin native wife!!!

The Tuna brought that franchise back to respectability faster than I ever would have imagined, but this year is sure to be tougher than last year. Vinny will be terrible at QB and Drew Henson isn't the answer just yet. Parcells is a great coach, but I'm with you on this one. Coaching in Big D has to be tough on his ticker. Staying in the TV studio would have been a much easier option for sure.

Tom, I heard McCarren say on the radio that the punter was so nervous before today's game they had to walk him out to Lambeau this afternoon and have him get accustomed to the surroundings. Man, that's reassuring from your third round pick, who you traded up for when you could have gotten him in the seventh round. Let's not hog this thread talking about a punter, but I think it's obvious Sherman blew this one already.

The weather sucks here in Wisconsin, which I'm sure is evident on the TV tonight.

Nice thing about Green Bay. They never move.
I grew up with the Rams in LA who came from Cleveland and went to St Louis.

I don't think I've ever heard of something like that before. I'm speechless. And as Greg will tell you, that's damn near impossible. :D

Putting the punter on the back burner where he belongs, big news out of Oakland: Robert Gallery was hurt at practice today with an elbow injury. No word yet on the severity.

Speaking of injuries, Paul Tagliabue has demanded that coaches be more forthcoming with injury reports each week during the season. He also wants detailed explanations if a player misses any 11-on-11 drill and there will be random videotaping of practices to see if coaches are being honest.

Somewhere Mike Shanahan, Brian Billick and Bill Parcells are sticking needles into their Paul Tagliabue voodoo dolls. :D

I met Robert Gallery in Los Angeles in May at the Rookie Photo Shoot and I swear he's the biggest football player I've ever met, and that includes Orlando Pace and Jonathan Ogden. He's a house, but he's still a good ol' Iowa boy. I really liked him a lot and hope he has a good rookie season.

Everyone should be as honest as us, Tom.

John, if you've never been to Lambeau Field before, try to do it at least once. It's an unbelievable place to watch a football game and the fans come out at 8 a.m. for a noon game and we don't leave until 6 p.m. or so. Our family gets together for each home game as we have tickets and make a full day out of it. We park in a guy's backyard and he allows us to use his john, warm up in the house by the fireplace and even use the outside electrical outlet when we choose to sit in the parking lot, drink beer and watch the game on the tube with the noise of the crowd in the background. It really is a unique sports experience from the tailgating to the stadium to the team itself as Favre is so much fun to watch in person.

If they bury my ashes in the south end zone of Lambeau Field, I will have died a happy man.

The thing about Parcells is that he's a coaching junkie, he's bored to tears in the studio. He has a serious D, 2 better rb's than he had all last year, and he's won before without a QB, remember Jeff Hostetler ? I think he sticks it out a couple more years.
