ARE THE CASH AND PRIZES FAIR IN THE NFFC?
I believe the prizes last year were:
H2H champ: $5000
Points champ: $1500
3rd place: nothing
Compared to this year's 5000/2500/500, I'd say more people will be happy this year.

billy waz, i think the payout were the other way last year and you did win the hole thing.i could be wrong I won my league at 11-2, but was 2nd in points (was still 13th overall) before the playoffs.
Bottom line is if you are going to score a ton of points you WILL make money (even if you have bad luck with the schedule).

How about $50 to the team with the most points for the last 5 weeks of play? It will keep more teams in it to the end.

On the flip side, if you make it too much, you hurt the overall prize structure.
Bottom line is that some people with crappy teams and poor records will stop trying...regardless of the "carrots" you throw their way.

Better to have $100 for the high score every week and then everyone would have a chance at that regardless of how their team was in the overall picture.

RI workhorse..
i do not view it as a "lure" at all... i think it is the best way to run a major event like this with multiple entries... it is the same reason those who missed the playoffs have a consolation bowl to hope for... to give as many people as possible a positive experience while still offering big prizes for people who had big seasons...

I think it's the good teams wanting more money. A bad team is a bad team and all the money in the world isn't going to change that. Anyone want to tell me the 240th ranked team is going to win one of these prizes? Yeah, yeah, the possibility exists but the probability is the same as me winning the powerball. This will be the top 50 teams in the NFFC who have already won money fighting for some more. AS KofQ said, don't mess with the prize structure. Bad idea.

Blame Greg! [/QUOTE]Absolutely, blame Greg!!! I love it!
Honestly, Johnny, if I did it your way there would be half who would be extremely happy and another half who liked it the way it was as most of the league champions weren't decided until the final game of the 13th regular season. THAT'S what I like in a high-stakes championship.
If I took some of the prize money away from the $100K and dispersed it other ways, half would be upset and half would like it. If I went to a 12-team league format instead of a 14-team league format, half would like it and half wouldn't. If I changed this or changed that, some would like it and some wouldn't.
In the end, someone as lowly as me has to make the decisions and do what I think is best for the entire contest. I honestly felt -- and still do feel -- that rewarding the h2h champion is the best form of payment for a fantasy football contest since h2h records is what football is all about. Yet we still reward total points in a meaningful way in the league contest and obviously most of the prize money goes to the top scoring teams overall.
It's a good post (except for the all caps) and I enjoy seeing the feedback as much as you do. Maybe one day I'll change this format so that you and Gordon and everyone else can have the exact draft format and scoring format that you'd like. I guess only time will tell.
