Meanwhile, suppose team #3 outscores you by 51 over the next few weeks but has a crappy team heading into the playoffs - don't you think its more fair that you're both in for the final 3 weeks? Also, haven't you learned not to do a victory dance with the season just 80% over? Need I bring up the NFBC. suppose, luck, garbage time.
What's next?
I am not in favor of the 3rd highest scoring team making the playoffs unless they have the best h2h. Winning h2h shows some kind of consistency.
Finishing 3rd w/o winning h2h isn't achieving anything. In fact, it could easily be that few high scores and a many crappy ones you are so worried about. I bet I could find a dozen THIRD place teams while you found one top pt that might.
What victory dance was that? I'm not the one that went from 3rd to 10th in the last month. Eddie did a great job the last month. Kudos to him.

My main point John: eliminating 86% of teams after 13 weeks, when many of those are very close to the top 2 and in all probability a decent percentage would pass one or both of those teams over the full 16-weeks is not very fair. However those top three (or four) teams are decided is a fair debate whether that is all-play record, DH record, pts, etc.
I think the biggest injustice is in eliminating too many teams from a chance at a playoff spot too soon, which weakens the league and the "fun" of FF for those teams as they pack it in too soon upon judging that they A) probably won't catch the h2h leader and b) probably won't catch the points leader after a bad start.

[/QUOTE]I said heading into the playoffs ... i.e., maybe they've been healthy thru 13 weeks then lose key players in that last week. They may enter as a lame duck with no chance while a savvy team that had injuries early and did a great job on the waiver wire may be peaking but fall a few points short of being the #2. I'd rather see that team in the playoffs too as they likely would be the better team over the entire season.

If they outscore me by 51 points and are lame duck, then I must be more lame duck than them and don't deserve it.
Oh, and year #2 of NFFC, I had that team you described above and went from 10th to 3rd the last three weeks. Had I finished fourth, no sour grapes "suppose, lame duck, lucky, garbage time" posts from me. You play the cards you're dealt with the best you can.
Sorry to keep pissing on your "spread the wealth" flakes.

I wouldn't characterize my proposal as spreading the wealth John, its not spreading anything, rather it is "may the best man (or woman) win".
As opposed to your "I'm too tired to go on after 13 weeks, just pay me already" theory!

Crappy, lucky, suppose, garbage time, lame duck, what if teams don't deserve to play for the $100K. Only the best of the best get to survive.
Why should a crappy 3rd place team compete for a $100K prize it can't win when it has a better chance of winning the $2500 consolation prize?
Why have playoffs at all then? Why just 3 teams? Why not 5? 6? 8? They have the exact same argument. They all have some KJ concocted up scenario where they could legitimize why they should be in the playoffs.

As opposed to your "I'm too tired to go on after 13 weeks, just pay me already" theory! Not to change the subject, but did you see that story where baseball's top agents are going to try and get their free agents signed before Jan. 1st to avoid the expected tax increase from 35% to 39.5% that is coming after Jan. 1st? They want the signing bonus to be under the Bush tax plan. I should have most of the top free agents with their new teams before we go to press with our first baseball magazine in early January.

The NFL allows 37.5% of teams to enter the playoffs. This would be the equivalent of 4 NBC format teams and 5 for the NFFC. I'd be ok with that, but given how many "don't change anything" people there are around, I'd settle for any compromise. I think two is far too restrictive weakening the integrity of the league as those with bad starts throw in the towel early.
